pepp trip

spent last fri-tues at the pepp , played real hard , suffer loss as 4 days without hitting 4 ducks once makes it almost like work.

Biscotis is a great restaurant , the eggs benedic la roma was awsome , sun dried tomato hollandaise sauce with BBQ filet migon .

the bar their has FP NSUD / JOB/ BP DLX/ .25 & up ,all marble & quiet with Stella on tap , nice place to play.

Good sushi & lobster bisque at Oceano.

They had a Mad Hatter costume party Sun nite at the Edge , walkin thru the casino was two lovley ladies wearing fishnets, 3 inch spike heels , lace mini skirt & 1 with white body paint & 1 with red body paint from the waist up.
and they were tame to what was at the party.

LOVE this country.

I'm glad you brought up not hitting 4 ducks even once in 4 days. Last month when I was there I was thinking the same thing...that Pep's machines were somehow programmed not to hit quads. But then about that same time I hit quad Aces so that kinda softened the blow a bit. But be that as it may, I still get the feeling that I don't hit quads quite as often at the Pep as I do other places.

We've also been remarkably quad-free at the Peppermill, except on the
SpinPokers. If it weren't for a couple of royal flushes last year,
we would have been seriously in the hole for 2009.

So ok. Because of what Janet just said I'll ask the question and then maybe an expert can set me straight. Can 8/5 BP (or any VP for that matter) be somehow programmed so that it DOESN'T hit as many quads?

No, it is just part of the cycle, Last year had 4 ducks hit 3 times in 45 minutes at the pepp, last 2 on same machine . The year before at atlantis got 1 royal, ducks 3 times and 4 aces on a super aces machine in 3 days.

Caa Caa occurs ; )

Sure. They would be in danger of losing their license though. This is paranoia at work here, not cheating by the house.

Thanks Jigger. I expected that maybe it was paranoia at work on my part but just wanted to check with others in the know.

I don't think there's any danger they'd lose their license. Gaming has allowed BJ dealers to reshuffle when a computer tells them the deck is unfavorable to the casino. I can't imagine why poker machines wouldn't be allowed to do the same thing. Gaming rationale is that the casino is not a person (presumably a blackjack dealer is the casino and not a person while working) and is not subject to the regulations regarding people using computers to change the outcome of the game. So for now, casinos in Nevada have the green light to use computers to change the outcome of the game.

Actually, video poker ALREADY reshuffles the deck before every hand. So yes, they are allowed to do that for VP, and in fact, they ALWAYS do that for VP. That's simply how the machines work.

And like table games, the deck in video poker (in regulated jurisdictions like NV) MUST be dealt from a standard, evenly distributed deck of cards (or virtual cards on a machine). It would be illegal for them to "stack" the deck on VP to deal the cards in any way that was intentionally non-random. If found guilty of doing such a thing, they would probably be fined on first offense before losing their license, but nonetheless they'd still be putting themselves at serious risk.

So it's pretty safe to assume that below-average results on VP are simply that... below-average and not a result of machine tampering.

You misunderstand. Under current regulations, casinos are allowed to shuffle the deck again, if a computer tells them the current shuffle is unfavorable to the casino. Or in other words, they can use a computer to tell them when the shuffling is done. "Done" meaning in favor of the house. It is illegal for a person to "stack a deck", also known as a "cooler". That may or may not be illegal for a casino to do, since by current guidelines they are not a person, but they don't have to stack the deck, which is harder to do anyway. They merely have to use a computer to tell them when the shuffle is "done".

Here's an example of how it could be done (and is done in MindPlay):

B: Use a computer to determine (by exact shuffle tracking) whether the current shuffle favors the player or the house.
C: If the current shuffle excessively favors the player, go to step A, otherwise let the player bet, draw or hold.

This is done as a defense against players who shuffle track using their mind (which is legal), but effects all players.

A: Shuffle deck.

Gaming rationale is that the casino is not a person (presumably a blackjack dealer is the casino and not a person while working) and is not subject to the regulations regarding people using computers to change the outcome of the game. So for now, casinos in Nevada have the green light to use computers to change the outcome of the game.

But all of that is irrelevant to video poker. Sure, they can use computer tracking to tell them when they should shuffle a live BJ game more often. But since VP shuffles every hand, that practice doesn't apply to VP.

The original question was in regards to whether casinos could program VP machines to hit fewer quads, and someone said no, that's something they might lose their license over. That's basically correct. They cannot (legally) tamper with the machines to change the way they deal cards to produce intentionally non-random results.

Your story about casinos using computers to tell them when to shuffle live BJ games is interesting, but it has no bearing on VP randomness.

Being allowed to shuffle until the deck is unfavorable is highly relevant to any game that involves shuffling a deck of cards. This is illegal for a person to do, but under current guidelines, it's legal for a casino to do because the board has decreed that a casino is not a person.

Not if the deck is always shuffled before every hand. As is the case for video poker.

Blackjack is different because multiple hands are usually dealt from the same shuffle, thus previous hands can affect subsequent ones (due to those cards being removed from the deck).

But that's not the case in VP, so it's irrelevant to VP.

And if you mean that the video poker machine shuffles, then analyzes that shuffle to see if it's got good cards on top, then decides to reshuffle some more until there's bad cards on top... no, that would be the same as dealing non-randomly and is illegal in regulated jurisdictions.

VP cards must be dealt in a random fashion, regardless of what gymnastics take place internally before the cards appear.
