Harrah's/Harvey's Lake Tahoe

Tahoe has so much more to offer in addition to casinos and is family
friendly regardless of the kid's ages. I hate to be the bearer of bad news. . .
people travel with their children.

During the summer, I believe Harrahs has a kid's club and there's a nice
looking beach walking distance from Harveys.

Call me old fashioned but back in my days parents were supposed to be
responsible adults. You might want to check with Grandma before bringing her
grandbaby to a casino. I know they did it in the movie The Hangover, but that
was as a joke. Also, you should probably call Gambler's Anonymous for
advice on how to gamble with a baby:

I am not saying not to travel with your children. I have four and travel with them. A casino is just not where I would take them. I seem to remember a biker shootout, a child going to the restroom and never coming out...to each their own but I consider my children my most precious gifts. Stay somewhere else and take turns going to the casino if need be. I can't ever remember seeing a nine-month-old in a casino. There are no baby changing stations in the restrooms or highchairs in the food areas so how is this child friendly? Just saying.

I can tell you that if you are planning on taking your 9 month old baby in the casino floor, you will quickly be told to take the baby out. why you would want to take a child gambling escapes me... Annie

Like most casinos they have a "fun zone" for teens who have been properly schooled on what to do when a stranger approaches. They certainly have no place you can "drop off a 9 month old" while you go gamble even just for a few seconds. For that you need to contact child protective services asap:

I am surprised at some of the extreme views given here on this subject. I don’t think the person who originally asked about taking a baby on a Tahoe casino vacation was thinking about parking said baby in a stroller beside a video poker machine while the parents played for hours. I think the question asked – and many did give logical thoughtful helpful ideas – was what could the adults with a baby do in the area as a family activity during the non-gambling time. People – please read posts here with some logical understanding and a non-critical attitude.

I have had my daughter with me on casino trips since she was a teenager – some 26 years ago. And the now-teenage grandchildren have been in and around casinos since they were in strollers. They have not and do not linger in the actual casino, but have walked through them – or been “strollered” through or held in our arms – to go to a pool or to a hotel room or to a restaurant. They have thoroughly enjoyed casino childcare centers when they were the appropriate ages. They have enjoyed the arcades, with the same close supervision that we would give them in any non-casino arcade. As they grew older they have enjoyed shows that were chosen as appropriate for their age. They weren’t in danger of being murdered in a casino bathroom because they were supervised there just as they would be in non-casino facilities. Actually casinos may be safer than many other vacation spots.

Some of our best family vacations have been spent in and around casinos, enjoying the luxurious amenities and interesting activities together. This might not be the way you want to spend any of your family vacations – and of course we also do many family activities in non-casino areas – but we need to be broad-minded enough to realize that not everyone has the same likes and interests. And it seems unusually judgmental to “attack” someone who simply wrote one short e-mail asking for advice about one simple family vacation, implying that they are unfit parents when one doesn’t know anything about them.

End of rant!!!!

Indeed, that was EXACTLY the case and the intent of my question.

Maybe some of the parenting advice I received was from people who don't live in Las Vegas, but FYI, a large percentage of dining, entertainment, etc. in this town requires transiting a casino floor. For example, my family of three likes to go to breakfast at Mon Ami Gabi, and the casino lies in-between the restaurant and the parking garage. No need to call CPS - we're just wheeling the stroller from point A to point B, and there happens to be a casino in the middle.

I'm not planning to drop a 9 month old at the arcade by herself so my wife and/or I can go gamble. I'm not planning to park her stroller next to a machine (which is illegal here, anyway). In fact, the intent behind my question was to make sure there were things to do that DID NOT require spending time in the casino. Having never been to Tahoe before, I wasn't sure there was anything to do there besides gambling and jet skis. So, I just wanted to make sure there were non-gaming, family friendly activities we could all enjoy together. So, thanks again to everyone who responded with some very useful information.

And, to the rest of you, thank you for knowing how to raise my child better than I do. Good for you.

Cheers.

*that sounds wonderful,......but come to ac casinos where there are whole
families parked in the non-casino areas thru the night and early morning
hours, as well as during the day; or to rincon where children sit in the
small cafe while their parents play just outside the gate; or try to enjoy
the pool anywhere when children are allowed to scream and jump into the
pool, unsupervised; or in nola where children are left in the pool
unsupervised so parents can go to a lower level for a smoke; or any casino
hotel when children run up and down the corridors, slamming doors, until all
hours of the morning, obviously left alone in the room. it seems to me that
if you can afford to lose money at a casino, you can afford a baby-sitter.
there can be, of course, as the queen has cited, arguments for appropriate
occasions for bringing children to casinos, but they all involve
responsible parenting. for some, if not many, addiction to gambling
over-rides responsible parenting. in the final analysis, there are hundreds
of other places besides casinos to take children; why not take them there
and hire babysitters when going to a casino so that they aren't exposed to
the more unsavory elements it is possible to encounter in a casino
environment, at least until the children are in their teens.*

*i know i'm leaving myself open to flaming here, but i've just seen too
many instances of irresponsible parenting at casinos. btw, for the record,
i love children, helped raise many of them in an extended family, and
taught them--with affection, often returned--for 14 years. but i know that
in that time, it has become more common to see that many parents have
abrogated their roles as effective parents. just compare children's
behavior in restaurants now to ten or twenty years ago; 'it takes a
village' now means that we all are expected to put up with undisciplined
(and i'm not talking physical discipline) children's screaming, running
around the restaurant, banging on the table, etc. i, for one, really enjoy
the clubs in casinos in which children are not allowed; i personally enjoy
quiet moments in between gambling bouts. *

No flames from this corner of the world. I have to go to the grocery store at 4:00am so I don't have to listen to screaming children! I hate the new style of parenting, which seems to be ignoring your children while you're texting on your cell phone and this is whether you are in a casino or elsewhere..

Absolutely right. The poster was asking what family things are available. No mention of gambling. They had a few complimentary
nights at a wonderful vacation destination and wanted to know what
activies were recommended.

Posters jumping on the bandwagon about babies in casinos, etc.

Read the post,

I personally love children, have my own and usually had a houseful for years. I wish casinos were ALL adult only and that includes rooms, restaurants and pools. There is nothing wrong with having a place that is exclusively for adults. When ours were growing up we took them to the beach every year and on many other trips to many places but left casinos for us. We had a family party (all adults ) in Las Vegas celebrating my sons' 21st birthday. We have tried to spend a weekend at a local casino and use the pool and hot tub but it is impossible as I believe these casinos allow their employees to bring their children and they just leave them at the pool. There are so many children there simply isn't any room. We just don't go there any more. Also I left South Point a couple of years ago as there were a lot of children playing in the casino actually running around the bank of machines where I was playing. I thought someone would stop them but no one did so
I left.

I understand the initial question but I think many of us wanted to vent a little about children on casinos.

"Actually casinos may be safer than many other vacation spots."

I have to dispute that statement. Vacation spots are generally chosen for their relatively crime free nature while casinos are crime magnets.

Let me add, I do not think that taking your children to a casino, their restaurants, pools or other entertainment venue would make you a bad parent but I do think that if you are not in control of your child or children all the time then that choice will cause other people to not enjoy their time. I just think it is okay to have adult only areas.

I wanted to add that on the radio show the wizard talked about getting his cwp. If you ask me, this is the appropriate response to the situation in and around casinos. But then again I'm not one to sugar coat things.

My wife and I are planning to take the kids and grandchildren to the Atlantis Resort in Paradise Island, Nassau, Bahamas. I have always heard that the VP is poor. But how poor? Does anyone have any specifics as to what games are available? Are there any semi-decent machines? Thanks.

The last time we were there the best game on the floor was 8/5 Lacks and that was only at the $5.00 level

I just returned from The Atlantis Sunday night. I didn't check every machine because I wasn't there to gamble. But what I did see was 6/5/3/1/1 Bonus Poker at the quarter level. If you are looking to gamble, there plenty of 3/2 blackjack games.
The casino is crawling with 18 year olds, because the gambling and drinking age is 18.
