Frank,
Are you sure this wasn't one of those very real-appearing emails that are sent when someone gets ahold of email accounts - says the person has been mugged, etc, lost their money and needs help to get back home?
I got one of these a while ago from a friend's email (who actually *was* in Europe at the time) - turned out to be a scam. And this happened a while ago on this board - someone actually sent money I believe at the time.

I would be very wary of responding to things like this. Much more often than not, it is a scam!

Did you get a message similar to this one? if so, it is a scam:
Hi,Sorry to disturb you with this. I'm out of the country on a sudden trip to
London. I am in a terrible situation and I really need your help with a loan
of $2,800. I'll explain the situation better and refund you immediately i
get back this weekend. If you can help out with the money or whatever funds
you can come up with will be greatly appreciated. I really need you to get
back to me as soon as you get this email. Please keep this between us.

Frank doesn't make multiple spelling and grammatical errors like that. Looks like he got hacked.
Gosh folks I just don't know. It sounded like a legitimate issue to me. It never even occurred to me that this could be anything other than a real plea for help from our favorite and most colorful poster.
Does anyone have the ability to contact Micky directly and see if these messages are really coming from him???
I must admit I didn't even notice the email address was different.
Here's a reprint of his message:
I'm writing this with tears in my eyes, I'm sorry I didn't inform you about our trip, Actually my family and I made a quick travel to London, (United Kingdom) and unfortunately attacked and mugged at gun point on the way to the hotel. All cash, credit card and cell phone were taken away from us, but luckily we still have our passport with us.
We have been to the embassy and the Police here but they're not helping issues at all and our return flight leaves anytime from now but we`re having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let us leave until we settle the bills. We really need help, please let me know if you can help. Am freaked out and confused.

No the message I got was different. I posted it.
~FK
No, I did post this message. If I made more errors in spelling and grammar than what would seen normal, it was because I rushed the post.
I have not been hacked, but someone may be posing as Mickey and trying to scam us all. On the off chance it really is Mickey, we should at least try to confirm or refute his claims.

Is having a good nose for cheating/scamming an important skill for a
progressive team manager?
Hey, if you think Frank is gullible, you should see the team owner.

Hay thanks vpFREE for saving me from this scam. I was actually teary eyed over Micky's situation. I don't know him well, but I could picture myself in his shoes, and it really upset me.
I guess I'm too trusting. Just wasn't on my radar that this could have been a scam.
Sorry for crying wolf. I feel pretty stupid right now. Could be worse, feeling stupid could be something to which I was unaccustomed.

Well heck, at least you and Bob will have something interesting to talk about on the next show!!

I couldn't imagine though being in a foreign land and being completely broke. Wasn't this the reason why people used to carry traveler's checques for situations like this? I doubt the american embassy would just hand out a loan for someone to get back home. We can spend billions to help others but helping one of ours - doubtful.
