Hey, if you think Frank is gullible, you should see the team owner.

Classic scam, just ignore it.

Actually my family and I made a quick travel to
London, (United Kingdom) and unfortunately
attacked and mugged at gun point on the way to
the hotel. All cash, credit card and cell phone
were taken away from us, but luckily we still have our passport with us.We have been to the embassy and the Police here
but they're not helping issues at all and our
return flight leaves anytime from now but we`re
having problems settling the hotel bills and the
hotel manager won't let us leave until we settle
the bills. We really need help, please let me
know if you can help. Am freaked out and confused.

There is one thing that bothers me about this whole situation. As much as this sounds like a typical scam, I believe Mickey's last actual post was Sunday, May 8th and he has not jumped in here with a response. Makes me a little uncomfortable..... Hope he's OK.

Micky and his family were mugged and he needs help.
If there is anything you can do, email him at:
mickeycrlmm@...This is not a test. This is a real emergency.
~FK
A group search on messages posted by him shows that it's not unprecedented
for him to go 2-4 days without posting, and back in March there was even a
2-week gap. I wouldn't automatically assume something's wrong --
maybe he's stuck on a slow-moving freight train somewhere
Or maybe
he's just otherwise not reading his email and doesn't even know his
account got hijacked yet.
That being said, if someone does know him personally, it wouldn't hurt to
try to make contact.

I'm surprised also.
An ap friend once commented to me when we were walking thru a casino that he'd be excellent working in casino security, because he's spent so much time in casinos that he can spot many more scams than a security guard can.
I agree and feel the same way about myself.
I'd offer 10-1 odds that Mickey has never been off this continent, unless he was in the Armed Forces.
But I'm not sure about that.
I am sure that the email is a scam.
Simply the fact that it has a different email address is more than enough proof.
In all of his posts, I've never read one wherein he mentions family in any way (I haven't read every one of them).

Frank,
I'm surprised you didn't see through this one. For one, it has been a scam email on vpfree before ( probably before you joined). Two, it has been sent through many other email messages in the past. Three, and most obvious, is the wording in the message. Read one of Mickey's posts and then read that post. It's pretty obvious that it's not the same person. Four, a cell phone and credit card? I'm thinking Mickey might not have either of those and I doubt he would pay for the international calling feature if he travelled to Europe. Five, Mickey doesn't seem like a London kind of guy. Montana yes, England no. Lastly, as many scrapes as he has worked himself out of, I don't think he'd be asking for money on vpfree. The scammers picked the wrong email address to use.

The hotel manager won't let them leave? That scammer needs practice. It has to at least be credible.

For some good laughs -
There are several people on the internet who bait the scammers by pretending to be naive and play along.
This is the best I've come across:
http://www.quatloos.com/brad-c/directory01.htm
If you only want to look at one, I recommend the Dr. Elvis one:
http://www.quatloos.com/brad-c/elvis.htm
Brad email to scammer, who's eager to get Brad to come meet him bringing money. Brad comes up with some unusual requirements:
"I need to receive your personal guarantee that there are giant canaries and flying pterosaurs in the Lome region. Since I will be packing a 20-lb bag of bird seed, binoculars, a brand new BB gun and a cast-iron skillet, I must be assured that all my equipment will be put to good use. I am so looking forward to admiring with wonder and amazement my first pterosaur in the wild. And once I bag it with my trusty Daisy, I'll let you help me de-bone it and chip off any fossilization. Then we'll fry it up for a great meal. Thanks in advance for your prompt response."
When I was inundated with "women" from Nigeria on MySpace, I tried to do that. I told one that I had sent money, hoping "she" would waste a trip to the Western Union office, but "she" found out too easily. She said I broke her heart.

Wow! It took an act of Congress for me to get back onto yahoo. Of course I'm about as computer dumb as they come. I had to call my buddy Al, to see if he oould get me out of the spot. He told me about the phony email he got from me a couple days ago. He says I got phished.
I was on vpFREE Wednesday but didn't make a post. That was the last time I was online until this afternoon. The same thing happened about a year ago. All my contacts got sent a Viagra ad. I'm gonna have to figure out how to tighten up on security.
As for some of the specualtion, I've never been on an online porn site, but I have been to a few strip clubs in my life. No credit cards but I do have debit cards. And, yes I have a cell phone.
Other than vpFREE the only thing I've been doing on the internet these past few weeks is genealogical research. I must have picked up something. Anyways, thank you all for the concern but I'm doing just fine.
Take care

Glad you are OK!!!
I was really worried, even if it was only my own stupidity to blame.

Is that all you sent? How am I supposed to get back to the good ole' USA?
Both my yahoo and facebook accounts got hijacked. Facebook says I got hijacked from near Atlanta, Georgia....and by "Firefall with Win7" whatever that means. One genealogy contact got the post in some middle-eastern language. And, oh yes, the hacker deleted out my whole contact list. Talk a about a pain in the rear.
Facebook says they will be able to recognize my computer from now on. I'm going with much tougher pass words and putting on that seal or whatever they call it on yahoo. I hope all that works. I don't want to go through this stuff again.
