Bad Tidings from the Palms

I sorry to report that the progressive FPDW have been permanently removed. Or at least that's what the casino manager told me. The new owners put their foot down and insisted that there were to be no loss leaders.

The old staff fought as hard as they could to keep them, but to no avail.

~FK

What?
Maloof was just on your show and said they would be staying!
Meanwhile, what excuse does M use to downgrade the meter to 3.2%?

···

At 99% or less the games already were in the DDB category-PLENTY of profit for the house. Now they are just another carnival game. Not blaming you, We all thank you for your efforts. I wonder if "Bob" is even going to mention this meter downgrade. --- In vpFREE@yahoogroups.com, "Frank" <frank@...> wrote:

Well, got to admit I'm not really sorry to see them go , as they consistently beat me for the last couple of years and I'm 2 royals short to catch up. Some pros' will be looking for new places to play, or maybe worse - they'll start double action playing the $2 10/7 machines on multiple point days and force Maloof to shut them down next.
Frank - here's your chance... convince Maloff to convert these machines to Frank and Bob progs, but with better starting basis like Ugly ducks, 7/5 bonus, 8/6 bonus Deluxe, etc.

best...Tom

Say it isn't so!!!
I just booked three nights to stay there because of the FPDW.
I guess I'll cancel and go elsewhere.
What would you suggest that is close to the action "strip" and reasonable.
Red Rock is too far away I think.
I personally think it is a poor move. I know I've spent a lot of money there chasing the progressive (to no avail). We eat in the restaruants and stay there and lose playing other games.

All 99.73%+ games are excluded from point multipliers.

The reason for both M & Palms changes is the same. Nameless corporate oversight & pencil pushing micromanagement. It would not be wise to try another FranknBob progressive at a casino that has gone corporate.

But that doesn't mean I can't find someplace that still has one captain at the helm. Any thoughts folks?

This was viewed as inevitable, but it has apparently happened much more swiftly than everyone thought. The Borg is quick to eliminate any resistance.

Does anyone know if the machines with FP Joker, etc. a couple of banks over from the former FPDW have been similarly obliterated? I have played those machines on occasions when the FPDW were all locked up. If CE is in their usual brutally efficient slash-and-burn mode, they won't let those games live, either.

What Tom has suggested sounds like a good idea, but it would have to be something like a 1% overall meter-rise with those better schedules. Divide by 8, that's .125 to each. Can that be done?

How about Terrible's? Or Rampart? Silverton? Tuscany? Treasure Island?

The two Arizona Charlie's and the Strat?

How about the Village Pubs? Get rid of the crappy tables with the 4-oak Bingo and implement good progressives, system-wide. In fact, get them to chuck the whole Gamblers Bonus thing.

lol C'mon, Frank, I ain't asking much.

Why don't you STAY in Vegas and open YOUR OWN joint, Frank? Good pay tables, and constant violin music in the background 24/7. It'll be great. Ooh, and the cocktail girls would have to pass the Frank Standard.

OK these are some interesting suggestions. After my staycation I'll look into them.

What on earth is the "Frank Standard"?

Endothermic & Bipedal is my current standard.

Does anybody know if there was even more carnage ? so far...

$1 10/7 progs --> $1 9/7 progs
25c FPDW - GONE
ALL the good 25C games up front GONE including loose deuce, jokers, 10/6 DDB, 10/7 DB

I guess this means that the Gold Coast will be extra crowded now with AP players .

I just checked on vpfree2, and things are as bad as I feared. There is no longer any FPDW left (progressive or not), and the +EV (kob) JW is gone.

This is so sad: no more 80% coupons for Little Buddha, no more fabulous dinners at Alize, no more Nove, no more looking at hot weekend evening young girls with dramatic decolletage struggling with stilettos, no more upgrades to suites. CE's taken away my favorite part of Las Vegas. Now let's see what they can do with their $23 billion debt. I guess the most important thing to them is keeping people away from Las Vegas. :frowning:

Lots of disappointed players were confused, and looking for the (now permanently removed machines). The music was turned up louder than usual (maybe to drown out the grumbling).

Club Palms employees are equally saddened.

Several Palms employees (who do not want to be identified) were told curtly by new (30 something) suits to expect layoffs, and that the Palms is no longer a family run business. Period.

Also, the 7pm drawing was about half of the usual crowd.

Long-time lurker, first (and maybe only) time posting...

On the topic of alternate games, what about full pay Double Bonus Deuces Wild with a 0.2% meter-rise (either all assigned to the natural royal or split 4 ways between natural royal, 4 deuces + Ace, 4 deuces, and 5 Aces)? That should put the return at about 100.008% with computer-perfect play, before the slot club -- as close to the razor's edge of 100% (Frank's concept from the radio show) that I could get. This might be as close as I see George Maloof getting to saving face in this situation, if he even can. (I am assuming that the remaining full-pay DB games are going to get wiped off the floor soon too.)

If not even this can get to the floor of the Palms, well TPG and LG&P just permanently lost the slot action of my other family members to the Gold Coast.

Fleas love plush surroundings when playing for their 1c per hand advantage. I predict the next sites for infestation will be Red Rock and Green Valley Ranch.

This is not a surprise. I'm shocked it didn't happen sooner. With Wynn making millions with nothing playable, it's not a gamble for Caesar's to follow the same path.

Gold Coast?
Didn't they take out FPDW a long time ago?

You have to wonder about the mindset of a group of suits that are so actively trying to drive away their customers. Do they really think that the drunken frat boy crowd (which is the only group for which the Palms will retain any appeal whatsoever) has enough money to keep the place afloat?

Yes, I think the herds of trendy, inebriated youngsters do have enough
money. You don't think they make money from the FPDW players, do you
really?

Kinda sorta. You can sneer at these people, but they're playing for $8 an hour because very few better opportunities exist, and when something decent DOES rear its head, it's swarmed on and instantly killed by many of the "pros" who sneer at those same "fleas". And 0.01/hand is still better than $7.35/hr at Death in the Box.
