Annoying VP Neighbors

Howdy Wranglers

Yes I am complaining again. I sat down at one of four machines that offer
9/6 .25 JOB at TP in AC. There was a couple next to me occupying two machines.
He would play a hand and she would watch. Then he would play a hand and she
would watch. If she hit anything resembling a paying hand she would first let
out a sound of delight..then clap her hands and then turned around as he did
and simultaneously kiss..ugh! She reacted the same with his play. This did
get tiring to Old Grumpy. (Hey maybe its me being jealous)

He would offer her advise on her play and they NEVER stopped talking. It
boggles my mind how some people are not aware they may be disturbing others. (I
know I am disturbed already and if I do not like it move or find another
past time.

That being said..do you have anything you find annoying..beside my posts?

Da Grump

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

-cigarette smoke in casinos

-lame music in casinos (I'm thinking I'll end up playing with an iPod
and noise-cancelling headphones if they let me).

-the fact that high-limit rooms only contains high-limit machines (doh).

The most annoying to me are those who want to comment on every hand
they play most of the ones I play and want to carry on a conversation
while playing. Also there are many who slap the buttons and curse the
machines - does that really help?

what bothers me a lot (besides smokers and people who play one coin at
a time!), are these totally inconsiderate SLOBS who think they are
playing VP in their living room at home and feel inclined (actually
reclined!) to place their feet up on either side of the machine!

what's next? taking off your shoes?

I actually watched a guy eat a sandwich while playing pickem at Resorts
in AC one time. I think I've also seen the shoes off thing also.

There is also a couple that plays the bar top slots at Mohegan Sun in
Ct playing eight cents a spin and if they hit a bonus round or anything
good they kiss. Wow you might win a dollar!!! You can retire now.

We try to restrain ourselves with this type of celebration to occasions of royals of $8,000 or more - although if we have been on a long losing streak or in a deep hole for that session, we might break loose for $4,000. And beware if I get a dealt royal on multi-line!

We have kind of a sliding scale on this subject, just like on tipping.

Today Brad turned 74; I just turned 67. My wish is that every couple will still be "out of control" at those ages!

Ouch!

So sorry you feel that way. It is absolutely the only way I can play VP over five minutes without my shoulders killing me.

<<One of my pet peeves is uprights with insufficient room between

vpFae, you can play beside me anytime. I have small feet and usually have enough extra room in my half to accommodate your big shoes.

I understand the smoking problem - I myself am very allergic to it. But playing one coin? I love to see people around me playing unwisely. The more people that play badly the longer good VP plays will last. And besides, sometimes one-coin play is wisest for players with very limited bankrolls and is always wisest for those playing negative games.

Really, the only thing that annoys me is when someone else gets upset about the
way I have a good time.

MYOFB and I'll mind mine. If you're having fun, I'm happy for you. I don't care
if you're banging buttons, smoking, drinking, farting, puking, chatting,
screaming, whatever.

If you're not having fun because I'm annoying you, or for some bigger reason,
it's your problem. Don't take it out on me.

If someone causes a bad vibe at a table or bank of machines, I'll just go
somewhere else to play. Life is too short for stress.

I totally agree with you, dear vpFae. You are entitled to be as
comfortable as possible, while pursuing your passion. Please
continue to indulge yourself in this small luxury.

I would do the same with my size 6's, if I could. Unfortunately, my
legs are not long enough to accomodate this comfy position.

Oh, I can think of one or two things

I get annoyed when I'm playing in near solitude, enjoying the quiet and
(somewhat) fresh air, and then a chain smoker just HAS to sit down at
the machine right next to me.

Actually, I get annoyed when a smoker sits down right next to me even
if it's the last available seat in the entire casino.

I get really annoyed by someone standing behind me and watching me
play. I don't mean for a minute or so, I'm talking about people who
will stand behind me and other players for literally an hour or more.
It's even worse if they start to comment on the hands: "Ooh -
almost. "That's the way". etc.

If, after turning around a few times and giving the pest a venomous
look, does not discourage him/her from continuing to watch you play,
I have found a sure-fire cure. Turn around, clamp your hand over
your mouth and yell, "Look out!! I'm going to throw up!" Then, if
you have to, actually carry out your threat. Try not to miss their
shoes.
They deserve it!

Hi Skip,

Much as I'd like to claim to be the author of the colorful post
quoted below, I cannot take credit for someone else's work. This
message was sent by "vex" (vexicon) not by me.

BTW, if anyone sitting close to me is engaged in any of the noisier
activities described below, I will soon find find a more peaceful
part of casino in which to play. I exclude quiet drinking, as I
occasionally enjoy a glass of Cabernet, while I am playing.

Aw, vex is just part of my email address. Having that in the From: line helps
keep my stuff out of Google (with a stretch of the imagination, anyway...)

Y'all can call me Brett.

On my first video poker visit to Las Vegas, I'll CERTAINLY be watching people play! I'll try not to be so close as to make them nervous, but I'll be there. Same in the live poker rooms; I continue to enjoy watching people play, and then I go home and play (at much lower stakes) on the internet.

I've enjoyed discussion of video poker software, and I suspect I'll buy both the Jean Scott and Dancer software. After all, I've spent $1,000 on live poker books and software, and less than $100 on the software for video poker is appropriate. I'll need to go to Las Vegas with some STRATEGIES, strategies for the most important +E games. I don't want to be beating a path to the Gambler's Book Store in LV for strategies, since this first visit entails so very much in its scope already! Then too, I'll have played enough practice video poker for each of the most important +E games strategies I have, to assure I can begin to play for a first time in LV, if I have to.

Dave

PS: I have to think about my usage of "LV" each time, since my wife of nearly 42 years is LV too, standing for La Verna. See how lucky I am?

let us say you are at a casino and like to play the 50 or 100 line
games (which you seem to enjoy). and let us further say the casino
only has about 5-6 of these machines ( one of the most popular local
casinos has that many).

i can't tell you how many times i have walked up to a bank of machines
like this to find some (fill in your own expletive!) _______ playing
ONE penny at a time with their equally intelligent partner doing
exactly the same thing! this means that 40% of the available machines
are being used by people who really have no business being there at
all! they might as well have stayed home! they are simply taking up
space and making the games unavailable to people who really want to
play 50-100 lines at a time.

just my 3 cents.

Paul

Even if this guy eats chocolate pudding with his sandwich, so what. As long as he keeps his place clean, there is nothing wrong with it. If you can not stand it, stay home.
