Hi,
I have 2 tickets for "ZZ Top" and with 2 nights at the
Aquarius. However, I do not think we will attend. We
were just in Laughlin this past weekend. We saw Rob
Schneider at the Tropicana and Don Mclean at Harrahs.
A big storm hit Friday while we were in the Schneider
show. The show started at 9:00 PM. It was very calm when
we came out of the show, but some of the damage was eveident.
A bartender at the Aquarius said he had a tree fall though
his front window about a mile west of the casinos. By the
way, it looks like ALL the NSUD machines have been downgraded
to Airport, i.e, Illinois Deuces. They still have their full
pay machines but I believe they earn cash back at one forth
the rate of other video poker machines. Video poker earns
at half the rate of slot machines. They sill have some
reasonable video poker, just that much is getting downgraded
like in most casinos.
We had rooms at Aquarius, River Palms and Harrahs. We had
rooms at the River Palms and Harrahs for free show tickets,
free play and food. The Aquarius was booked for an event
(Going for the Green) and all food for 3 days at the cafe
and buffet. We were told by our host to charge the Outback
and Vineyard Ristorante food to our room to be looked at
after our play. We did not need this option, but I would
assume the weekend's play might have been enough this time.
The "Going for the Green" contest involved winning free play
while earning points towards a card upgrade. Television
monitors in the casio kept people updated. However no points
were posted for the first 20 places until after the even
ended at noon on Sunday. I was usually between 9th and 12th
place. This was not bad considering I went to two concerts
and we ate many of our meals in other casinos.
You were instructed to pull out your card before noon on
Sunday to get all of your points recorded. At this time
I could see that I was in 10th place. 9th and 10th place
gave back $300 in free play and 11th through 15th gave
$200. We left the casino shortly after noon and did not
return until late that afternoon. I remained in 10th place
and earned $300 in free play. My point total was 18,103
and the eleventh place finisher had 18,102. I managed to
win $100 more in free play for a one point difference!!!
For a change something did not work out wrong.
Interestingly, I had lost all the money that I was willing
to on this weekend and refused to try an improve my position
the the last hours. However, I did sit down at a $1 video
blackjack machine for the last 20 minutes to just wait
around until the closing at noon. I would slowly play a
little, with the main idea to not lose more than $5. I
managed to make $20 during these last 20 minutes mainly
due to a few fortunate doubles and splits. Looking back,
it was these last few casual points that made the difference
of $100! One never knows, but it was pleasant to know those
last few hands reluctantly played earned $100! Poor Vito,
the 11th place finisher, must be beside himself. I wonder
what he was doing the last 20 minutes!
While we were at the Aquarius on Friday night the power
went off in all of Laughlin. Aquarius power came back on
in a few minutes. However, during a visit to the Diamond
Lounge on Sunday, we were told that Harrahs was "blacked
out" for about 2 hours Friday night.
We have seen a ZZ Top concert in Tunica. It was for the
official conversion of the Grand to Harrahs and the grand
opening of the new Paula Dean buffet also at the new Harrahs.
She was also part of their celebration that weekend. ZZ Top
put on a good show. It was a small venue and my wife stood
right in front of their stage for about an hour during the
concert!
I am sorry this is so long, but I also want to welcome
back Bluesteak. It is good to have him back. Hamstockman
had warned me that he had given him an old computer. He
said you would return to the site shortly, and here you
are! You are a great source of information and should be
an honorary member of the Laughlin Chamber of Commerce!

So anyone get an invite this time around? I think it is the third time back for ZZ Top since 2005. I will gladly fill that empty seat for you.
I was Hamstockman's date for the ZZ-Top 2005 show in the first week of June. That was a bookmark type trip for me. That Sunday I got dealt a royal playing Full Pay Deuces on the EW upright Multi-pokers. You remember those don't you? Coin clunking...just down the stairs...no touch screens.
ZZ Top has a $138 ticket in Phoenix with Tom Petty at the end of the month of September. Then they do Europe a few days later for another month run. I guess $45 in Laughlin is deal.
So the band is the same three cowboys from Texas for 35 years now. Dusty Hill on Bass guitar, Frank Beard (no beard) on drums, and Billy Gibbons doing the lead guitar. It looked and sounded great from the third row at AQ in 2005.
