Zero Cust.. Ser. at Sam's Town LV

Re: Nudge on Sam’s Town comment.

I understand and agree with Nudge’s long comments, it had nothing to do with receiving Free Play but he was talking about the lack of Service in lieu of saving a few bucks….

When I was in Vegas the 3rd week of March, I took the free bus from Harrahs to Sam’s Town, just so I could get to Boulder Station. I did not play at all in Sam’s.

Jim

No one is disagreeing that poor service is annoying. But the reason the freeplay was mentioned is to point out that Nudge is all take and no give. By playing it through on FPDW he is taking every iota of edge he can get, and STILL has enough wind left in his sail to post 10,000 words on the internet. The fact is, and he admits, is that Nudge has been making a living off of places like Sam's forever. So what's there to complain about? I can see a tourist or a losing slot player bitching about poor service, but not Nudge. Nudge is bitchng, apparently because it's his nature. And in my opinion this is INSANE, when one is making a living off of the game. Do you think that Sam's doesn't read VPFree? Nudge is lucky the welcome mat is still laid out for him. Does he understand the meaning of the phrase "under the radar"? And this rant was tame compared to his last beauty concerning the random mulitplier thingie and the way it treats him. That was a classic.

Mr. Top,
I hate to disappoint you, but my living was made a long long time ago. I worked for 28 years in the automotive wholesale parts business, mainly in transmission and driveline parts. I retired in 1998 at the ripe old age of 47. I worked for five different companies and made them a boatload of money, and a nice share for me. Due to extensive sales training and graduating at the top of my class at the Dale Carnegie Institute, I was able to do my job better than most in my business. One of the main reason was that I had the ability to quickly determine what was important to the buyers at my clients shops, and their families, and use it to my advantage. I find it strange that all five of the companies that I worked for went belly up at some point after I left them. I do believe that I have stated previously on this forum, that I am definitely not a professional player, but I am certainly a proficient one. What could you possibly think that you know about me that seemed to cause you to blurt out mostly fiction? I also believe that I have mentioned that when it comes to possible fame and fortune, I could care less about the first, and only want to get a little slice of the second to keep me close to even. Also, I have said many times, free food?, fat guy?,...You do the math!

Ok, so I stand corrected. You're not a professional player, you're a proficient player. I apologize.

Now, wtf, does a proficient player, want to stand in the middle of his own personal pumpkin patch, complaining about the color orange?

Mr. Top,
Is it possible that I could have accidentally run over your dog? Have I tried to hit on your wife or call your mom a nasty name? Where does your opinion of me come from? I am not so good at what seems to be some kind of metaphor, but my pumpkin flavor feeling is blasé at best, however I have made some tasty dishes using pumpkin squash. I have heard that in this highly advanced 21st century we live in, that orange is the new black. I hate to interrupt your derailed train of thought, but do you have anything to add regarding my subject line, customer service at Sam’s Town, or any casino for that matter?

And what exactly, Mr. bbtop, possessed you to jump into the fray in such a nasty way when someone was just expressing his legitimate gripe about very poor customer service and the way it has degraded over time at one of his favorite casinos. I'm sure many of us have similar stories. Why don't you put some sugar in your tea and chill:)

According to Nudge, he had witnessed several times over a few weeks that same machine get stuck in ticket jam mode, but he chose to use it anyway. He therefore forfeits all his rights to making long internet rants about said machine or about poor service resulting from said machine or the lack thereof. My decision is final.

Okay, I do not understand why someone who made a boat load of money plays 4 hours a day 20 days a month for a free buffet? Also, I am thinking if they are playing those 80 hours a month at Sams, what are they playing at Stations for their free buffet? Shouldn't you be doing something else with your life if you are in your 40's?

Thank you to the original poster for the info on the poor customer service at Sams Town.

It is a problem thru out the Boyd casinos as management has decided to squeeze out expenses rather than grow the top line. This has been evident in the last few quaterly reports from the company.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

The Boyd casinos as a whole represent some of the best and nicest places to enjoy video poker and gambling in general in all of Vegas, in all of the country. The original poster not only spoke of alleged "poor service" but he also suggested people ("tourists") take their business elsewhere if they don't like "poor service". Meanwhile, Boyd has been very good to him over the years. And I am sure he is not going to voluntarily leave for the destinations with poor gambling choices. The Boyd casinos are great places to stay and play. Contrary to the original poster's grumbling, I would encourage tourists to try Boyd casinos if they haven't already. That includes Sam's Town, one of my all time favorites.

Get used to it. With higher minimum wages across the country, lower skill jobs will continue to be automated. We've already seen it with self checkouts and ATMs. The casinos around my area have replaced a lot of cocktail waitresses with serve yourself beverage stations. Pretty soon you'll be ordering from a kiosk at your local fast food chain. So it doesn't surprise me there wasn't a slot attendant to be found. I gotta laugh at the statement that says I graduated from the Dale Carnegie Institute at the top of my class and that the 5 companies I worked for mysteriously went belly up after I left them. Welcome to the real world where if we polled every member of this forum, we would find out many of our past employers have went out of business. It's a fact of life and business. Talking about DGI makes it sounds like an elitist statement.

I think both of you are missing the point about customer service. I work in the customer service field in management with face to face interaction with the public everyday.

Companies are constantly looking for ways to cut expenses and unfortunately payroll is an easy alternative. With the advent of TITO machines, the need for CSR's on the floor has been greatly diminished. I guess we all forgot the good old days of waiting for a hopper fill or fixing a hopper jam. How about the change person with the little cart? Looking for buckets or racks for coins? These all went away with the TITO system. Personally I enjoy the visceral feel of filling the bucket and the racks of dollar tokens. It was dirty yes, but more involved.

What was said about waiting for a "hopper jam" now a days is just progress. Just like waiting for the same thing but with coins before. One thing I like about TITO is when you get a jackpot of $1000 on quarters and anything over $400 on dollars that you didn't have to wait for a handpay. I guess we all liked to wait for that.

In the overall picture, yes, maybe Sam's Town needs to relook at what made them famous and adjust the amount of floor coverage. But, think of it this way. If the trend is to eliminate full pay machines that players play on exclusively and put more staff on the floor, then what do you think what type of machine will be replaced first to counteract this? Do you honestly think they will add more full pay machines or will they just continue the trend of adding more penny games or lower % video poker?

This trend was established well before there were minimum wage raises! Stop the propaganda!

I thought he was kidding when he said that. Maybe he was. It's difficult to tell sometimes with just the written word and no facial expression. I have the same problem, when I write, it's often difficult to tell whether I am kidding or being an a-hole. No really, seriously, I know it's hard to believe.

For me, there two takeaways from this thread.

First, the vast majority of casinos are poorly run. I personally like it this way. While the fact that most casinos are run by incompetent fools can be frustrating at times, I'll gladly accept some level of aggravation over an intelligent operation which presents us with little to no opportunity for making money.

Second, many otherwise intelligent players are making foolish decisions. Running off free play on the best game in the casino is one such example. The bean counters who are cutting staff to save costs are possibly the same people who will yank machines which are underperforming. Obviously, running off free play is going to hurt the holds of any machine, and if we use the best games in the casino for our free play, it will only accelerate their demise. Collectively, we would be better off if we targeted machines with less than ideal pay schedules for our free play redemptions. We might be giving up a couple bucks for every $100 of free play rewarded, but that's a small price to pay compared to the increased risk of losing the game used to generate the free play offers in the first place.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Bravo, this is the best post in the whole thread. Running freeplay through a poor paytable only costs peanuts. In the long run it will only improve your image. A sharp player should already know that. And that's if you have to play the freeplay separately from regular play. It's better if you can just play it off on a play. And frankly, the way things are nowadays, if I were to play FPDW, I'd play without a card. It's not the 90s now, that era is gone. There's nothing wrong with playing FPDW, but do it anonymously. The benefits are practically zip, and you risk flagging yourself.

South Point and the Station casinos are very well run and have excellent customer service plus some the best VP around. In Reno you have both the Peppermill and Atlantis .

I dont understand the tie in with bad customer service = good VP or you have to put up with bad service because you are playing on a gift, ie: free play , that the casino was happy to give you so you will come back.

When I go to a casino with RFB comped and I play NSUD ,as I have in the past at the Boyd casinos , was i being a bad person ? an ungrateful customer who should have been playing bad pay tables to show my appreciation ? per some of the post on this subject YES.

I have quit going to the Boyd casinos because of poor customer service by mangement and the horrible way I have seen them treat their employees.

They still continue to send me offers and the only thing i miss is the brew pub at Main Street Station .

We all deserve to be treated with respect by anyone we do business with. If you are not ,walk away and find someone who will.

Nothing noble about putting up with it.
