Today there are new signs announcing that as of March 31 the Jumbo
Jackpot will be unique for each of the 7 Station casinos. It will hit
by $100,000 and reset to $50,000. The bonus free play for those playing
will be "up to" $100, not the flat $50 it has been.
Yet Another Downgrade at Station Casinos

Not to be a nitpicker, but unless we know how fast the meter runs we
can't tell if this is a downgrade, an upgrade, or a wash. True, most
changes are downgrades (and we can assume this) but it's not for sure.
Same with "up to" $100. If the average is less than $50 (and it hits
with the same frequency) then it's a downgrade overall. However, if
you're a bigger player and you now get more based on that it may be an
upgrade for you personally.
Interesting to discuss, but after saying all this I'll have to admit
that you're probably right -- it's probably a downgrade

Yes, it's only an assumption that it's a downgrade. It's too bad that
they won't tell us, but I'd love to place a bet that the new overall
Jumbo payout will not be more than 50% of what it was.
Here's something that would be fun. If a statistics-loving person had
tracked the rate of increase of that big jackpot over a month or so on
a daily basis and knows its average. They'll probably do the same with
the new jackpots and have a good estimation of the difference.
I bet someone has done this, and if they read vpFREE maybe they'll post
and tell us about it

In the beginning, each Stations had their own Jumbo Jackpot.

Simple economics tells us it's almost certainly a downgrade. Going private runs up a huge amount of debt; Harrah's laid off many key people in the recent past (IT, Marketing, etc) and so has Stations. They seem to be doing everything they can to reduce costs (not understanding that increasing revenue is a superior strategy).

My question is: Why does anyone really care? Has anyone ever won the Jumbo
Jackpot? Does anyone know anyone who has??
I always assumed this was just a big marketing ploy that I had less of a
chance of winning than a sequential royal.
Or are we all just worried about the free play we would get when it hits,
and not the overall big about?

"In the beginning"....... each Stations had their own Jumbo Jackpot.

My goodness, I didn't realize that Stations had enough influence to be
prominently quoted in the Bible!
I did think that the first sentence in Genesis might have mentioned
baseball (In the big inning) but I'm surprised that it also referenced
Station's Jumbo Jackpot! {{O:

Since you have very little chance of hitting the jumbo jackpot, I
would say it probably doesn't really matter how they do structure it
except that now it will cause one casino to be packed while the
others are wide open as that one approaches the $100K limit. Sounds
like the bonus will be on a meter as well. I guess that could become
a new hobby for someone - to watch the meters at Stations and report
them every day.
