YESTERDAY, I GOT THE ROYAL TREATMENT AT MGM...TWICE!

Guys,

Yesterday, after reading that the October calendar gift coupon at MGM was a small throw blanket, I decided to go down and pick it up. I had to stand in line for about 20 minutes to get it, but it was a nice product, unlike some of the junk they've given us in the past.

After getting my blanket, I headed over to the GAMEMAKERS to play some quarter Pick'Em. I put in a hundred and we were off!

After about a half-hour, I hit a quad, cashed out and left. On the way out, I, for some strange reason, put a twenty into a quarter 9/6/4 DB machine. The pay scale wasn't all that good, but something told me (fate/karma?) to play this machine. On the third hand, it "DEALT" me royal flush in clubs. Yeehaw!! The machine immediately rang up the 4,000 points, I hit the CASHOUT button and headed for the cashier's cage.

This is my first dealt royal in about twenty years and several million hands of playing video poker. I've hit dozens of royals before, but I never thought I'd get one this way. The odds of getting a dealt royal on a jack's or better game game is about one in 650,000 hands.

Next, I took the elevator up to Ignite and had a single malt scotch to celebrate. I probably should have left with my winnings after that, but I didn't (fate/karma again?). I decided to play some more Pick'Em. In went another hundred and off we went again.

After about 15 minutes, I held the 10, Queen and ace of diamonds and BINGO! the Jack and King of diamonds hit the screen...another royal! This tome for $1500. This time, the odds of getting a royal playing Pick'Em was just a measly one in 352,000.

After giving the attendant my SSN, signing the tax papers and getting the taxes taken out, I got a hand pay in hundreds. I tipped the attendant $50 and headed back upstairs for another scotch and left after that. Life is good...sometimes.

Two royals in one day is very/lucky good. My next goal is to get dealt a royal playing Pick'Em. I know it's going to be a tough task, but I'm not giving up.

Pappy,

Congrats on your success. I'm convinced that in the end that smart VP players are rewarded. So it was with you. (Even though you did play a bad paytable! :)) I hit my first royal on PE at MGM Saturday. I had a Queen-Ten of diamonds on the left and the jack of diamonds and another Ten on the right. Of course, strategy tells you to ditch the high pair to go for the royal when it's not ace high, so I did it and up it came.
I tipped the hand pay gal $5 because, well, I was pissed about getting a W2-G and didn't think I should tip more than I would have had a not hit a jackpot. (Just because you know I have more money means I should tip more? That sounds like a Democrat's argument for taxation).
I retrospect I felt kind of cheap afterwards and wished I had give a little bit more.
Do let us know what kind of offers MGM sends you now that you are a big winner. They might cut you off entirely, knowing them!

Congrats,
That's a great day!!! Of course, you don't really want to get the Royal dealt to you in pick'em; 4 card Royal is a hearbreaker in PE, because you have to toss one away. Best of Luck and stay on that hot streak.

Preston,

I don't play dollars anymore, so the only higher percentage game worth playing at Greektown is Deuces Wild (NSUD)...and I can't seem to stay ahead on that one. I still have some food comps there, so I will go back every occasionally, for breakfast at Bistro 555.
I've permanently switched to MGM (Pick'Em) until another casino offers a better choice of vp games, which I doubt will happen any time soon. The casinos in town seem to hate and fear the knowledgable video poker player. They only want the really dumb ones to frequent their places.
