I wonder if anyone else has had this happen (and not necessarily at
the Palms):
This has happened five different times this year: I am playing $1 or
$2 whatever at the Palms, and I hit something that generates a W-2G,
or I am spending a long time in the high-limit room and I have a
high credit balance on the meter, (like if I hit deuces playing
dollar NSUD), and about 30-45 minutes after I get paid, a girl
sidles up and slides into the seat next to me, smiles, and engages
me in conversation about how I might like to see the inside of
her....room. Now, being an average male, I naturally assume that
it's my God-given studly attractiveness that has wafted its way onto
the casino floor and snared some unwary female. But lately I
thought: could it be something else?
The funny thing is, these women were:
1. Not particularly attractive. Maybe 5.5s or 6s; you wouldn't have
thrown them out of bed for eating crackers, but the idea of paying
(what must have been several hundred dollars asking price; I never
asked) money to have sex with these ladies was somewhat laughable.
2. Impeccably and expensively dressed, so I surmise their other
potential customers didn't share my scruples.
3. Fairly pushy. One girl's sales pitch was to essentially shove her
boobs into my face; it felt like a hospital nurse shoving another
pillow under my head. I get the feeling the supply is exceeding the
demand in this industry (or prices need to come down).
The real question that has occured to me, though, is: how do these
girls KNOW that I'm several thousand dollars ahead? In some cases
there never was a W2-G generated (like a hot session at $1 DB; you
hit a lot of $400 this and $800 that, but unless you hit a royal, it
just makes the credits mount up). But EVERY TIME I had a big hit and
kept on playing, here came Suzie Wong or her equivalent. Who is
tipping them off? The floor people? The slot supervisors?
If this bothered rather than amused me I would have certainly raised
a stink about it with management, but as it is, it just made me
curious. Is this done with management's: 1)Total ignorance 2) Turn-a
blind-eye tolerance 3)Cheerful enthusiasm? After all, the Palms
(more than practically any other casino) is all about
overstimulation. Could they merely be simultaneously providing a
needed service, and protecting the virtue of Las Vegas's young
women, who are standing in line to get into Rain in their little
black dresses, with their fake ID's and Daddy's credit card, and
might be susceptible to the wiles of a well-heeled high-roller with
a wallet full of Franklins? (After all, someone with a $100 bill can
afford TWO drinks at the Ghost Bar!)
I know that classically, bartenders, bellman, and other casino
employees in strategic positions routinely work with the local
hookers for a piece of the action. This is the first time I've seen
or heard of the SLOT DEPARTMENT doing so, however!
