XXVP Need help w/ new Netbook

Success--at last!!

After Hubby tried every trick in the book (downloading drivers and
firmware) except talking to a real person, we returned the Samsung and purchased a
Toshiba yesterday. Lo and behold--same connectivity problem when security
enabled on the Linksys router. The desktop and laptop work like champs
but not the new Netbooks.

This morning I finally did what Samsung and Toshiba both recommended. I
called Linksys. It took 1 1/2 hours and I paid $9.99 to let them remotely
access my computer but the problem appears to be solved. They switched us
from WPA to WEP security and now all 3 computers seem to be functioning
properly.

What an ordeal. We're off to Reno/Las Vegas in the morning and I'll
report back on our experience traveling with the new Toshiba Netbook.

Thanks to all for their input.

WEP was broken in 2001 and is considered a deprecated
standard. You got a tremendous decrease in your
security for your 10$ and wait time, I'm sorry
to say. See:

I am interested in this subject, since I am in the market for my first wireless laptop...The security issue is very confusing (at least to me). Here is another slant on it for those interested....The fact that Linksys support configured WEP is very disturbing...

A friend of mine, Elana, lives in Vegas and works freelance fixing computer problems. She has cancer and can use any work she can get right now. She's got a nice offer for 20 mintues of free consultation via phone for people in Las Vegas only. (She does everything from teaching Photoshop, how to use programs, fixing computers, setting up childproof computers for kits, etc). She knows about PCs, Macs, and also Linux..
I hope you won't consider this spam, but since I see people asking here about fixing Notebook and other problems, I hope people won't mind this post, since my friend is really needing work and is also really nice, experienced, and not expensive. She is Elana - 702-238-6439.
PS - Unfortunately she can't help with Video Poker problems since she isn't a gambler!

If helping by phone why Las Vegas only?
