XVP - Winfall

Winfall jackpot has hit its $5 million mark. From what I read, if no
one hits the jackpot on Wednesday, the jackpot amount is paid to
people who have 3,4 or 5 numbers.

The literature is a little confusing. On one brocure, it says that
the jackpot will stay at $5 million til someone hits it and only the
incremental jackpot amount rolls down. The other brochure says that
the entire jackpot amount rolls down. Big, Big difference.

Since the jackpot increased by about $600,000 from the last drawing,
I estimate that 2.4 million tickets were sold ( usually, 25% goes to
the jackpot, 25% to the lesser prizes and 50% to the state). Pretty
good deal for the state.

Additional information is welcomed.

Johnnyzee,

When the jackpot reaches five million, all the prizes are
multiplied by about ten if no one hits the $5,000,000. Hence, a three-
pick that normally pays five dollars, now pays fifty. And so on.
I have hit for $1100, and $950, plus numerous fiftys and hundreds.
Once I had six $50's and one $100 winners and someone hit the jackpot
turning my $400 into $40. Rats! I hate when that happens. But, I'm
still ahead for all the time I've played, so far. I've been lucky I
guess.

I already have 200 tickets for this weeks drawing and hope to at
least break even.

That's not quite how it works. When the jackpot hits $5 million, if
there is no jackpot winner, the jackpot cash is added to the payback
for 3,4 and 5 number winnners. Ten times the payback is an
approximation. What they are actually doing is taking the jackpot
amount and dividing it by the number of winners. It might be less
than 10 times the base amount.

It sounds like the entire $5 Million jackpot is distributed amongst
the 3,4 and 5 number winners. However, a document I have says the
jackpot stays at $5 million if no one hits. If that's the case, where
does all the extra money for the 3,4 and 5 number winners come from?
I guess we'll find out today if no one hits.
