Concerning the smoking/non-smoking threads, I think it would serve all

Even as a non-smoker, I'm in 100% agreement with the writer.

Also, with NO bad will intended, many of you have claimed that you
are "FORCED" to play VP or whatever in smoking enviroments. NO you
are not "FORCED"........there are other options. One being ......STAY

I always get a good laugh when I see this argument. Please go back
and reread the article only substitute heroin, cocaine, etc. for
smoking. Do you still agree 100%?

Don't get me wrong, I understand both sides of this debate, but the
argument put forth in this article simply is not valid.

What planet does this moron live on? My federal, state and municipal
government tells me what I can do on or with my private property and
my private business all the time on pain of fines, confiscation and
even prison. Welcome to the United States on planet earth. This is
nothing new. Apparently government has the right to be as idiotic as
we allow so long as they do not conflict with the Constitution or a
higher law. Last time I looked smoking was not mentioned in the
Constitution, which makes smoking laws fair game whether one
considers them a good idea or not. Just recently my idiotic city
council banned the serving of foie gras. Never mind the fact that no
foie gras is produced in the state much less the city and it was only
served in a handful of restaurants. I suppose if the city was full
of foie gras addicts they'd be making as much noise as the smokers.
In Chicago almost no one gave a crap.

I remember reading about this latest folly of our erstwhile City
Clowns. The uproar and foie gras banning resulted from publicity in
the media regarding the force-feeding of some livestock (pigs,
perhaps?) necessitated by the production of this "delicacy."

Only in Chicago, where many prefer the elegant Brats & Beer cuisine,
over fancy French restaurants, could such a silly law actually pass.

OTOH, the non-smoking laws have proved to be a major success.
Smoking is banned in all public places, including restaurants, but
exempting bars and taverns.

As a result, the nicotine addicts are now huddled in pathetic little
groups, OUTSIDE the public buildings, contaminating the fresh air
with the pollution from their weeds, and, I'm SURE, contributing to
Global Warming. Well the end of the cigarette is burning, isn't it?
(-:

Chicagoans, long known for their affinity for a 6 pack of beer, have
now begun more public drinking and less public eating. This has done
nothing whatever to aid in slimming the city population.

I wish you all a lovely day, with great VP hands, and the breathable
atmosphere of your choice in which to play them!

Thank goodness that we can still enjoy foie gras in Vegas!

It's perfectly valid and the way things should be to ME in a free market and free society. However, I respect that it's not to you.

I live in a place where liquor by the drink just recently became LEGAL ! There are still dining establishments here that refuse to sell alcohol or allow it on their premises. People who detest drinking love it and others get very angry that they can't dine there and drink. However, it's the owners choice NOT to offer alcohol and it's the customers choice if they wish to support that establishment or not as a result of his business policies. Again, just as I believe it should be and not dictated by politicians.

It has nothing to do with a free market society.

Laugh if you wish but one day the forced invasions may be on some

of YOUR OWN personal choices or freedoms. "Give em and inch and
they take miles"

That what happens in a majority driven society.

And, Yes........if you change smoking in the article to some

other legal substance., I still agree. I am a law abiding citizen .
I'm not suggesting breaking the law.

Guess what. Once a law is in place then it is no longer "legal".
Would you like if if some folks walked around naked in public places
or had sex at the table next to you in a restaurant/casino? A perfect
example of a "legal" activity that is disallowed in public. In fact,
it has been illegal for many years without impacting our free market
society.

I don't smoke , or drink, and only recently became a gambler.

However, I was never for banning those things. All are legal
personal choices. Even though, good arguments can definitely be
made against them for the dangers and harm they pose to a society.
Freedoms do come with a cost and I don't like the other option so I
accept the cost.

That is certainly the trade-off. However, to equate smoking bans in
public places to the elimination of personal freedoms just doesn't
cut it.

I live in a place where liquor by the drink just recently became

LEGAL ! There are still dining establishments here that refuse to
sell alcohol or allow it on their premises. People who detest

it's the customers choice if they wish to support that establishment
or not as a result of his business policies. Again, just as I
believe it should be and not dictated by politicians.

As I noted before the laws will reflect the opinions of the majority
of citizens (over time). Once a law is removed, as in this case, it
then becomes a private decision.

It would be interesting to see what casinos would do with a law that
allowed smoking areas in casinos that had separate ventilation
systems and were less than 50% of the total space ...
