According to a letter published in "Strictly Slots" the bank of Megabucks at
the Excalibur was "out" for 2 days prior to when the guy won the jackpot.
The writers wanted to play, but couldn't. According to them, on the morning
a technician was working on the machine for an hour or so, and when he got
off, the machines were opened and the first person who sat down hit the
jackpot on the first pull.
This information differs slightly from the later "news" report later in the
magazine which says the player had played through about $100 when the jackpot
hit.
The writers wondered if this was simply a weird coincidence, or could the
jackpot have been rigged. Strangely they later show the winner playing a
quarter slot in the casino (you'd think he would have played dollars). The
winner refused to have his name or picture released.
Coincidence or conspiracy? Well if I were IGT I would want to look into
this.
