Voters passed the non-smoking initative by a whopping 63% Yes to 37%
No. Smoking is now outlawed in any indoor public place. The only
exception, I believe, is on Indian reservations (Indian Casinos).
The law also stipulates no smoking in front of the building within 25
feet from the entrance! It's pretty extreme and that provision will be
difficult to enforce. It takes effect on December 8th.
At the largest non-profit bingo hall in the state (not Indian bingo)
they announced they will add regular "breaks" so smokers can feed their
addiction outside the hall.
But is there a loophole? The law refers to "public buildings". What
keeps a business owner from selling a $1.00 annual membership card to
their restaurant, bar, etc.? Only card holders can enter. It will be
interesting to see what happens if someone does this.
