XVP - Warn everyone to avoid 6/5 Blackjack

It is the oft-heard goal of some Strip operators to change all 21 to
6/5. First just attributed to rumor it is rapidly being verified as
fact. If the rubes you hate so much do play 6/5 there will be NO 3/2.
Explain that away any way you'd like but the future looms large.
There will be nothing to be smart - as you appearently characterize
yourself - about as there wil be no choice.

Afraid not, Michael. Why are they unwary? Why are
they gullible? It's because they are uninformed.

Unless the casino is dishonest (Ex: rigging a slot
machine to never hit the jackpot) the casino cannot
hurt any player who has MADE THE EFFORT to be an
educated player. And no, the casino is not misleading
or dishonest when they call a game "Super Fun 21"
instead of calling it "Low Payout Blackjack You
Shouldn't Play".

If it makes a player mad the casino decided to short
their BJ, it's completely fair to ask them, "Why
hasn't it been making you mad they have slot machines?
(What do some nickel machines pay? 93%???) Why hasn't
it been making you mad their roulette has a double
zero? Why hasn't it been making you mad they offer 3
Card Poker (3% house edge, minimum, isn't it?) I
suspect it hasn't been making you mad because those
aren't 'your game' and you don't care about them."

The worse that can be said about the casino shorting
their BJ is that the educated BJ player has been
inconvenienced. If you want to stay an advantage
player, you'll just have to learn something else or go
to a different casino. Too bad.

Lastly, I will make the point one more time that
players who DO make the effort to learn a game and
play to their advantage NEED THE RUBES TO COME IN AND
LOSE. Sorry to be mean, but: Bring 'em in and suck
'em dry. It's not guaranteed this will make a casino
offer some other full payout games, but it sure makes
it more likely they will do so (because they can
better afford it).

Successful gambling is hard. It's supposed to be.
The players who don't make the effort to learn don't
deserve sympathy and are not being ripped off.

Ripoff is the correct term. From Super Fun 21 (Single
deck touted but
even money for BJ not) to now 6-5 the gullibility of
the public is
being nurtured. 6-5 is not even new on the Strip.
Arguing it is not
intended to rip-off the unwary is beyond semantics
into the untrue.
They have been told single deck is the key & are now
entering the
rendering plant gladly.

Correct, craps is better than any shoe game unless you are a
counter.

If you find yourself in a casino where your choices are a $10 minimum
craps game with 5X odds, and a $50 minimum blackjack game, you could
say that the craps game would give you a smaller expected loss per
dollar wagered. Even then, the BJ may be superior when you take comps
into consideration, since your entire BJ wager would accummulate
comps, while your craps odds bets would not.

But in the real life situation, where the craps minimum & BJ minimum
are likely to be the same, I see no sense in which craps is "better"
than basic strategy BJ, except if you like the fact that a craps game
moves more slowly.

That is: in order to acheive the "better" %age return of craps, you
have to wager more than you do at BJ with same minimum; this higher
wager amount means increased loss in dollar terms. And rational
people would rather lose .6% of $10 than .3% of $50.

Fuzzy thinking. Who's expressed hatred of rubes? Those of us who
gamble intelligently *love* rubes, much as they love cows in India.

do play 6/5 there will be NO 3/2.

Not true. In order to understand why, we must be more precise in our
understanding of "rubes."

There are VSPs (Very Stupid Players) who will make no distinction
between 6/5 and 3/2. The casino's motivation for NOT offering 3/2 is
that some of these VSPs might randomly sit down at the 3/2 game
instead of the 6/5, & thus lose their money more slowly.

However, there's a counter-factor. There are also SSPs (Somewhat
Stupid Players) who are smart enough to always avoid 6/5, but stupid
enough to play 3/2 poorly. The casino is motivated to offer 3/2 so
that it won't lose the profit of these SSPs.

So... as intelligent players (IPs)... we don't owe our gratitude to
the VSPs. In fact, we must pray that their numbers don't increase too
much, since if there were an endless supply of VSPs, the casinos
would be correct in dedicating their floor space ONLY to very bad
games.

We *do* however owe our allegiance to the SSPs, those players who
demand good games & then play them poorly. Therefore, it's our duty
to educate the public... but not too much.

(Educating the public -- that is, turning VSPs into SSPs & then
leaving them alone -- seems like the most efficient course. The
alternative, turning IPs into SSPs, is trickier. We could lobby for
more alcohol or other Stupid Drugs in the casinos, for instance.
Ideally, we'd only want IPs to get drunk, & even then we'd only want
them to get drunk enough to become SS, not VS. It's like a
thermostat.)

It's the same with Video Poker. What we need, precisely, is to
increase the number of people who are smart enough to demand Full Pay
games, & then stupid enough to play them poorly. Nothing else will
do.

Amen.
