XVP: Walking from bus terminal to car rental facility?

I'll be picking up a rental car (at the central facility, near the airport) a day after I arrive in Las Vegas. The Deuce bus ends its run at the SSTT (South Strip Transfer Terminal), which is at 6675 Gilespie St. The car rental facility is at 7135 Gilespie.

Is it practical to walk this? Google maps says it's only 0.5 mile and of course it's a straight shot, but the route on Gilespie does cross I-215. Are there sidewalks all the way? Any advice on whether this would be unsafe to walk at night?

You will pay a lot more(30%+) picking the car up there. Lots of other locations in town to get a rental car from. You could always drop the car at the airport at the end of the rental if they have a location there.

I made that walk once but in the daytime. It's not too far a walk. Both the SSTT and the rental car center are on the same side of the street, but the sidewalk is only on the opposite side of the street so you'd have to cross. There is a well marked crosswalk at the 215 to get across.

Not sure about doing it at night - it's a fairly desolate area - I recall a couple of office buildings being there but not much else and I don't know if it would be well lit or not.

Actually that's not the case. I have a 3-day rental (pick-up and return at the airport) at a total cost of $47 (includes all fees & taxes). I checked off-airport locations and got prices that were nowhere close to this-- even though taxes and fees were less, the daily rate was much, much higher leading to a much higher total cost.

Take the bus to the airport and the free shuttle to the car place

In response to your question about safety I didn't sense any danger at all walking from the car rental facility to the bus stop or vice versa. But since it's a fairly isolated area just remain aware of what is going on around you. My only negative experience was the late summer heat since there is absolutely no shade. But at this time of year only rain would make your walk an unpleasant one. And it should only take you 10-15 minutes tops unless you are a slow poke.

I second this.
I normally find that the final price at the airport is a lot lower even though you have to pay the higher fees. On many occasions I have ended up renting a car for the full trip at the airport even though I only needed it for a day or to due to the higher overall rates if I rented the car from a casino-based rental desk (with the same rental company).
