Of course this is a matter of opinion. And, quite frankly, it was on the
recommendation of some LVA members that I took some friends there. It was also
the first time in years I'd stayed at a Vegas hotel without having the rooms
comped upfront, trusting in what I'd been told by others. Bad move.
MSS screwed up the reservations, then blamed it on me despite my printed
confirmation, because I'd used Room Reservations for it (think about that one for
a minute). Rooms had missing and upended furniture, mold growing in the
bathrooms, shoes stuck to the non-carpeted floors like Post-It glue. That's just
what happened on arrival. I won't continue, although there is more..... The
recent story about Rampart's crappy guest services sounded too familiar.
If someone wishes to stay at MSS, more power to them. Opinions and
experiences vary. I'm simply making sure folks know the other side of the story
beforehand so they can weigh that in their decision.

Brian--I will first admit that I have never stayed at MSS, but I have
stayed at Gold Coast and from what I can tell, the rooms sound similar. There
are some folks on the LVA that are great supporters of MSS and are the first to
admit that they are also comped. I know many of these people and believe me
that they could "jump thru more hoops" and be comped at a fancier strip
property but actually prefer to stay at MSS. I know that all the rooms were
recently renovated but I don't think that any of these folks that I know from the
LVA would stay at any property that has a hotel operation that was"the worst
experience I'd ever had for renting short-term lodging. Anywhere. "
Somehow I surmise that there are other factors that are influencing your
statements. That being said, I can compare that many stays I've had at The Rio
(approx 10+) stays and out of them, I'd say that 1 or 2 of them were not
what I expected the Rio to be. Even my hubby, who is a non-complaining,
mid-westerner complained loudly a couple times--but that doesn't mean that the Rio
is a BAD place with "the worst experience I'd ever had for renting short-term
lodging. Anywhere."!!!
I guess what I'm saying is that if you've only stayed there once and didn't
like it -- fine but others (with some pretty high standards) think it is a
fine place, even if they're comped pretty well. AFter all, isn't that the
point here? Don't we all want to accrue as many points/comps as possible and if
we're all comped are none of us to be trusted because "certain folks are
nicely "comp"-ensated for beating that drum on such a widely read forum."?
