XVP: Video Blackjack at The Riviera

Be aware that each player position and the dealer uses a different six deck shoe. This adds 0.06% to the house edge. Also eliminates a few strategy changes based on the composition of the cards on the table. My home casino (Majestic Star - Gary IN) had one of these for a little while. Rules are adjustable on that game as they originally stood soft 17 at the MS but changed to hit soft 17. There is also a side "royal match" bet which is better than most table versions but with a house edge of over 5.6% that bet should be avoided. These machines are also available for Let it Ride and Ultimate Texas Hold'Em. The latter has a house edge of 0.52% of total wagers for a single player but at a full table you get to see every player's hole cards which with strategy adjustments could give a slight edge to the players.

Several times people have asked about VBJ that pays 3 to 2 for a blackjack. There are some nice 5-player tables at The Riviera, which is on the north end of The Strip. The rules are 6-decks, dealer hits soft 17, double any 2 cards, double after split, late surrender, dealer peaks. From blacjackinfo.com for those rules, I got a 0.58% house edge. There is also an auto win for a 7-card charlie, and no re-splitting is allowed. You can bet $2-$200 on a hand. The game is made by ShuffleMaster.
Our small groups thought this was a very enjoyable experience...especially those that didn't know how to play and could ask for help with most hands, and the cocktail service was great!

What makes you say that? I have seen two rules variations posted on the six deck games I have played. Type 1 games say cards shuffled every round. This leads me to believe there is one six deck shoe for all cards dealt in a round. Are you saying it is theoretically possible to see more than six Ace of Spades, or any other card, on the table in a single round? Type 2 games say cards shuffled after 2/3 of a shoe. This again leads me to believe there is one six deck shoe for everyone at the table, like in a real table game. What has always baffled me, is how to tell when the cards are shuffled, since the display never shows a shuffle. For a while I thought the cards were shuffled only when there was a change of dealer. I experimented with card counting and bet and strategy variation based on the count using this method, but my results were not positive. I have no doubt my sample size was insufficient to draw any strong conclusions as to game fairness.

I checked out this game tonight. Be aware it requires twice the coin-in to earn a point when compared to video poker.

Vegasvpplayer is correct. Some deal 4/6, some reshuffle each round. It will say so on the machine.

Vegasvpplayer is correct. Some deal 4/6, some reshuffle each round. It will say so on the machine.

I don't think that was the issue being questioned. The question is over vegasvpplayer's contention that a separate shoe is being used for each player at the table. He wrote:

"Be aware that each player position and the dealer uses a different six deck shoe."

I highly doubt that's the case.

A different 6 deck shoe for every player is a option on the settings on the ShuffleMaster tables in certain jurisdictions

Yes, there is one jurisdiction - I think it's PA - where this needs to be
the case.

My post mistakenly said that it was vegasvpplayer who wrote that each player position had its own 6-deck shoe. In fact, vegasvpplayer, like me, was questioning whether that was accurate.

These machines are also available for Let it Ride and Ultimate Texas Hold'Em. The latter has a house edge of 0.52% of total wagers for a single player but at a full table you get to see every player's hole cards which with strategy adjustments could give a slight edge to the players.

I have checked machines at several casinos in Las Vegas. All only return a push on the blind bet for a straight, not 1:1 as most table versions pay.
