I tip the valets $2.00 as routine for several years. When I leave the
casino, if I have had the same man or woman, and been there 3-7 days I give a five.
But other than that, I always tip whether it takes longer or not. I suspect
the time element is not under control of the valet.
I never tip when I hand off the vehicle--but I have tipped the man unloading
my vehicle at registration, and the bell hop who brought it up.
I NEVER tip if I receive poor service or attitude ANYWHERE-with one
exception. For survival purposes, if I am going to routinely visit a restaurant, get
coffee from a Star bucks or coffee bean location, buy my paper on the way to
the office, etc. and the individual has an attitude I often give them an
unusual high tip the first time I get the attitude. They always remember the high
tip and keep looking for the next high one--which they never get. It has
worked for me in several situations including my Coffee Bean location on the way
to the office.
I know it sounds crazy--award poor service--but the deal is they remember
how poor the service was--and think they had better give good service to this
woman. I manage a lot of my own real estate investments. If I have a bad
tenant--I don't begin any procedures--I have someone visit, show them the check
they will get to go away, and tell them once they have loaded up the van ($19.95
at Home Depot) they'll get the check to go away. This invariably works and
saves me a broken door or fist through the wall, or other last minute
vandalism renters do as they move out.
Naturally none of these things work all the time in dealing with people--but
tipping is the only fair way to go in Vegas.
