XVP - Using e-mail to cotact Casino Hosts

Hi Group,

Daily reader, very infrequent poster. Always great info from
everyone. I am not sure if this is a topic that has been brought up
before but my experience with e-mailing casion hosts has been less
than wonderful. Right now, I am waiting for reponses from three
different properties. One message has been out there 4 days, another
2 days, the third, well, minutes but if my past experience holds up,
this one won't respond anytime soon. Of course, I know I could use
the phone but e-mail is easier and I can access it from a number of
locations.

What is it with casino hosts and e-mail? Am I impatient? I actually
followed up once on an e-mail to a host. She told me she hardly even
reads them. huh!?! E-mails equal phone calls in my book.

I am interested in others' experiences.

Some are more comfortable with email/computers than others. Also
some do not want to put anything in writing, much more difficult to
deny. You never know who's on vacation.

Some hosts urge us to call them, but we're the customer and feel
better using email. If they don't like that we end up going
somewhere else.

I have only interacted with a single host from one property. So, we are
dealing with anecdotal evidence and small number statistics here. However,
both the host and I seem to find it superior to the telephone. With e-mail, she
reads hers when it is convenient and I do the same.

I like to use emails for many situations, including my business, but I have to disagree that they are equivalent to phone calls; rather, they are equivalent to _mail_, because that's what it IS. In that respect, it is unprofessional and unbusiness-like to "hardly even read" emails, just as it would be wrong to not read snail-mail. However, unless you invite your host to call you with a reply, and include your telephone number, then in my opinion you are adding the burden of requiring a _written_ response, which usually takes a whole lot longer than a phone conversation, and so I don't think it's reasonable to expect it to be treated like a phone call. In other words, I'll respond to emails, but it might take a few, or even several days, until I find time to do it. And in my opinion, there is almost an implied casualness -- as though time is not of the essence -- when emails are used -- so I don't think that the business world, in general, gives the same priority to email as they do to phone calls. Now, if I read an email which includes a phone number and an invitation to call, then I would give it the same priority as a call-back message that is handed to me.

Cheers.

Hi Marty:

It always depends on the host. I've had great response from the
properties where I use one. A partner and I played one afternoon at
a mid-level Strip hotel where we'd never stayed and, when picking up
our comps for dinner, were handed a host's card by the boothling.
Like most, we were already planning our return when we arrived home,
so I emailed the host whose card we'd received, said we'd played a
little (~$4,000 cash-in), needed two rooms over Memorial Day, and
that we'd like to check her place out. She responded that day, set
up our reservations, and explained what play they expected for RFB.
We've ended up preferring to stay there and I handle everything by
email with our host.

IMHO, you should ask each of your hosts how they prefer to
communicate. I'm sure there are some out there who don't like
email. Find one that does if you, like me, prefer to handle things
that way. Hosts should cater to your needs and work to make you
happy.
