I'm pretty sure I've heard reports of Thorp's death a few years ago, so one can expect some difficulty in getting his permission to use any of the work 
But it is nice to know that the reference itself is available online; thanks for the resource.
It is amazing how many resources ARE available online, often in searchable format -- for example, I've heard that the latest edition of Robert's Rules of Order is out there (for those who ever have a parliamentary question and don't want to consult a professional parliamentarian such as myself - and who feel competent to navigate and interpret the 700+ page book).
I believe it's Amazon.com that's somehow getting permission to do this, and I have no idea how many books they've put online -- but you can be certain that, in the long term, they will find a way to charge for it -- unless advertising can suppport this activity, as I'm certain that most publishers / copyright owners will be asking for something in return for permission to post.
Of course, material that is no longer copyright-protected can be put into electronic format and posted by anyone.
