XVP - The Deuce - strip bus service becoming overly crowded/slow

Since the double-decked Deuce buses hit the strip, we've noticed a
considerable increase in ridership. Between the increasing numbers of tourists,
increased gas prices, and the allure of riding on a double-Decker bus, the result
is that the new buses are extremely crowded -- and slow. Where it used to
take 10 minutes to ride from the Luxor to Flamingo, yesterday it took us 45
minutes (on a Saturday -- yes, weekends are the busiest). Perhaps the new
strip bus fares add to confusion and slowness on boarding ($5 for a 24-hr
unlimited pass), or perhaps it is just the increase in the number of passengers tied
in with increased strip traffic.

In any case, anyone planning to ride these buses should be aware that they
are in for a slow, crowded ride. Passengers should try to climb up to the 2nd
floor, leaving downstairs for elderly and disabled persons.

Also, remember that the Monorail is a much faster alternative. It is
especially useful if you are going from the MGM Grand to the vicinity of Harrahs or
plan to go to the Sahara (end of line), Hilton, or Las Vegas Convention
Center.

The drawback to the Monorail is the cost, which is now $5 one way. You can
save a bit by buying a 10-trip ticket.

Locals can now purchase $1 one-way tickets at the stations since people are
now manning the ticket booths.

While the Monorail may be more expensive, its speed and uniqueness make it a
viable alternative to the overcrowded strip buses.

There is also route #105 from downtown that goes via Industrial and covers the strip from the rear of many of the hotels. Also, #108 that goes from Downtown via Main St (after serving the Premium Outlet Mall) and then via Paradise all the way to the airport, not too far from strip properties (return via swenson, D.I., paradise) as another alternative.

Maybe we should bring back the pedi-cabs. Seriously, the Deuce is a
huge improvement over those dirty and bulky CAT busses, so I am not
surprised they are busy.

45 minutes from Luxor to Flamingo does seem to be a bit ridiculous.
On the other hand, what are you doing on the strip on a Saturday
going from Luxor to Flamingo? That traffic is just too insane for me
to endure on the weekends unless out of town guests coax me to the
strip with a free dinner offer.

Hey all,

Going to be in town next weekend (28th-1st), planning on my first
trip as a "real" VP player (where by real I mean actually knowing
the right strategies and an intent to put some serious play time
in). I've been a table player my entire gambling "career", and
while I love the tables, the comp situation drives me nuts. So the
plan is to start dividing my time between tables and VP, and also to
see if I can manage Harrah's diamond in a day.

Had a question in response to this message - does anyone know if
there's any problems having a local friend buy me a stack of one-way
monorail tickets and using them for the trip? I was looking at
doing the unlimited 3-day pass, since the large group of friends I'm
in town with (a shared birthday party) is scattered all across the
strip. A whole bunch of $1 passes sounds quite a bit cheaper though.

Also had a VP question. I apologize in advance, since I know the
answer exists on the group pages; unfortunately, I'm not exactly
sure how to interpret them yet. Basically my intent is to do 18K of
play in a day at a Harrah's LV property. On $1 machines, this is
3,600 hands (since I think the 14,400 hands I'd need with a quarter
machine would be too much for me to handle in 24 hours!). As near
as I can tell from the database, my best bet (taking into account
the payback percentages and volatility) is 9/6 JoB, based on what's
available at any/all of the Harrah's LV properties. Does this seem
correct?

Anyways, thanks to all of you for the great posts on this forum.
I've been lurking for a few weeks now, and there's a lot of great
stuff here. Maybe I'll see some of you hunched over the machines
with me ;).

Harrah's used to have three or five play 9/6 JOB in
dollars. Those are the ones I played when I made DIAD.
They have been downgraded, re-instated, moved etc. so
often it is a pain. I think there is $5 9/6 JOB in the
high limit room. You can also take a free bus to
Laughlin and play the 50 play 9/6 JOB:-) I think they
only require 1800 points for DIAD. I leave for Las
Vegas this evening, work out at Harrah's, will look
around. Call my cell 214 325-2410 anytime. BTW, I will
be solo this trip, can take one guest to the Diamond
Lounge if you want a preview.
