XVP - SW Airlines Fare Sale

SW Airlines is having a great fare sale for the next 3 days. Fares range from $30 short-haul (i.e. California to/from Vegas) to $120 (coast to coast). Check your specific travel dates between Dec. 1 and Feb. 16 to see if this sale benefits you.

I fly at least every other week. Although not luxurious I strongly recommend Southwest for two reasons:

1) There is no charge for the first 2 checked bags. Almost every other carrier charges you now unless you have elite status or use their credit card. NOTE: Keep weight at or below 50 pounds per suitcase. I have literally seen people repacking at the McCarran Airport ticket counter.

2) There is no change fee if you rebook or cancel your trip. This is a huge advantage. The full value of your ticket may be reapplied towards another trip within the next twelve months,

I'm a huge Southwest fan for the reasons you mentioned, especially the 2nd reason--no penalty for change or cancellation, as long as you rebook within a year. (I usually fly carry-on, so the no-baggage-fee is less of an issue for me.)

You wrote "Although not luxurious...". That implies that SW's seats or planes are somehow lacking. I think SW's seats are more comfortable than most coach seats on other airlines. I'm pretty sure the legroom is superior.

And if anyone remembers with distaste the old procedure of lining up early to get a good seat, that's no longer done. Numbered boarding passes are now issued, and you can assure yourself of being among the first 60 (usually first 30) by using the online "Early Bird" checkin, which costs $10.

The onboard service is generally, though not always, superior to other airlines, too.

Back then, I avoided Southwest due to the boarding process.
Today, Southwest is the only airline I want to fly for domestic trips. There has to be a really good reason for me to choose another carrier these days.

Take Care,
Mark
