The traffic when there is a show in the MGM Grand arena is horrible. The
crowds inside the arena can also be intense at a crowded show. I just saw
Barbara Streisand (great!) - and with all the people, after the show the crowd
wasn't even moving for 15 minutes.
So here is a suggestion: Park at Paris/Ballys or Flamingo Hilton and ride
the monorail to and from the MGM Grand. (or park at LV Hilton or whatever
casino is most convenient for you). You'll avoid the hideous traffic around the
MGM, and on the strip, and the monorail ride itself takes about 5 minutes.
Even if you are planning to take a taxi after the show, jumping on the
monorail and getting a taxi over at Bally's or Flamingo is probably a big time
saver.
For locals, the monorail only costs $1 each way, so its a great choice.
Non-locals will (unfortunately) have to pay $5 each way, unless they buy a
multi-trip ticket or have a local friend. Still it might be worth it to avoid the
hassles.
The MGM is a horrible concert venue by the way. Make sure you look at a
seating chart carefully when purchasing tickets. Be aware that they sometimes
extend the stage a bit in front making what look like fairly decent, but side
views, into semi- behind-the-stage back views.
The good news is that they have replaced a lot of the horrible seats with
flip-down seats without cup holders that are good. If you are large, ask about
the type of seat because some are extremely uncomfortable.
Take binoculars if you go since the place is huge. Sitting in one of those
side/back seats is not necessarily as bad as it seems, because you are close
to the stage, but you won't be able to see the performers faces - which can
be frustrating. They only have a couple of large screens to show closeups,
so if you are far away from the stage, the viewing on these screens is poor.
The side/back seats are close to the stage, giving you a good look at the
screens - but they are a reverse image since you are behind the projection on
the screen which can be odd (Streisand in mirror image isn't as pretty as
normal!).
