XVP Spam and new Screen Name

I have changed my screen name for Yahoo VP groups only and it has only been
three days and I already have Spam in the new box. I do not surf using this
screen name. I have another email address for surfing which blocks all incoming
mail. Do you suppose that Yahoo groups is the culprit and is "selling" names
to spammers? Please continue to use my old email for direct/private mail.
Thanks, Shirl in Las Vegas who is already enjoying the cooler weather.

Shirl; Yahoo doesn't hide the fact that they do this, but you can "opt
out" by editing your "account info".

It is AOL who is the culprit - AOL email accounts are famous for
getting tons of spam. Every time I switched User Names on AOL, the
spam would begin right away, like clockwork. You might consider
changing your AOL address to some other ghost account to receive your
Yahoo Groups emails.

In Yahoo, be sure your preferences are all set to "NO". Go to Mail
Options/Subscriptions, and also poke around your Yahoo mail settings
to make sure those are set correctly to avoid any spam.

you might also try installing some freeware to detect and delete
data miners from your cookie jar. goto www.majorgeeks.com
search for spy ware and DL the free version of ad-aware 6 from lava
soft. Oh yeah, another techhint, ditch AOL ASAP.
