While the recent snowfall was of interest, much more snow has fallen
in the past and will undoubtedly again.
In January 1949 snow fell on several days totaling 16.7 inches for the
month, with the maximum of 9 inches on one day. Then in January 1974
13.4 inches fell with 8 inches on the ground at one point. These data
are from the airport located in unincorporated Clark County. No data
are available from the city of Las Vegas, but it is very likely areas
like the current Summerlin had more, due to the slightly higher
elevation. BTW the low temperature record is 8 degrees. If you can
forecast the next occurence of such a low temperature, you could make
a killing selling replacement palm trees.
