XVP Sleepless in Philadelphia

In case you're wondering what has me stirring this morning (not that
it takes much), we have somewhere between 1"-2" of rain falling per
hour just now -- raising the ante on the accumulated deluge that began
Friday night.

I'm gaining new appreciation that the $1800/yr we pay in flood
insurance (just one block away they aren't required to insure) might
find it's way back to this home ultimately. Until now, I had
considered it our contribution to the N.O. plight.

The Schuylkill river (took me 2 years to figure out how to prounounce
that) sits about 4 blocks from our doorstep and, for the first time
since a hurricane managed to wend it's way to offshore of the
Chesapeake, the river is projected to reach 5 ft over flood stage
later today.

We're well above that, but in absence of any wind, I now can imagine
just how bad it could get under the right circumstances. In any case,
I'm not shopping around for sandbags ... yet

Harry, I hope you and Bev stay dry and don't need to use your insurance! Lainie

Harry, while you are waiting for the water to rise, take pictures
(use one of those casino gift cameras) of everything that might get
damaged by flood for your proof of loss in the event of a flood.
Then put all of the casino gifts that you could not get rid of in
the lowest part of the house and smile if the water comes in as you
will finally get the cash that you really wanted.

Regards and Good Luck,

Mike

Thanks, Lainie. Hope I didn't exagerate things to the point where it
seemed likely I'd been out in back ark buillding between posts

Still, I was tempted to send a dove out scouting for an olive branch
this morning ... the clouds have parted a bit and it's a comfort to
see that the sun is still in place. Our stationary storm center has
finally moved up into New England.

The river's running just a little above the bank in some places this
morning and the flood advisory for later today has been scaled back by
about 3 feet to very modest levels. Apparently the "highlanders"
aren't sending down the torrent of water once feared.

I was simply feeling modestly in awe of "Mother" last night as she
spewed one last blast on us before this reprieve. But it was a drop
in the bucket relative to what other areas of the country have dealt
with over the course of the last few years.

My spirits have brightened, now that I've been out basking in the sun
between appointments and met up with Bev for a cheery lunch :).

If my spirits are lifted to the point of song, it's a different source
of a "sun-shiny day" that I celebrate. "Sunny" is more my speed

"When Harry Met Bev" :>

Our tale is a saga by comparison - as you might expect of a courtship
that saw a crossing and 3 subsequent re-crossings over the course of
16 years before I proposed.

btw, nicknames being what they are between school mates, that film
would actually be titled "When Harry Met Howard" (I'll leave that
explanation for another occasion). Bound to muster a stronger take at
the box office, no?

Mike,

You're a consummate master when it comes to Casino EV conversion. I've
been meaning to ask you if you managed to swap the Donald Trump
bobbleheads into something of tangible value ;). If anyone could ...

We got lucky in this one. We had some rain, but our house is on a small hill that keep's us from getting flooded.
     Hope your OK, Harry.

Hi Harry, I'm glad to hear that you're drying out, that "Mr. Sun" has sent "Mother" packing, and that you and Bev were able to enjoy a fun lunch out. Don't worry about thinking you may have exaggerated a bit -- we've ALL been known to do it from time to time (even me) <g>.

That said, next time, perhaps JT can narrate the story of the flood or Mickey can tell us about a real "floating craps game" that started during a flash flood, while the math folk try to figure out the odds of your house being affected and the rest of us discuss the merits of where we think you and Bev and should go and play/stay/eat while the rains continue...
