xvp, sitters in on line touneys

I personally haven't seen any players who meet this description, and have played a fair amount online. My son is a very tight player, and he says he has folded 31 out of 32 hands; he has also won more than he has lost in these tourneys. I personally have gone 20 minutes without a playable hand, and don't think I'm that tight.

In answer to vp_nbi's questions:

ME:
When I talk about sitters, I'm not talking about tight players. I'm
talking about players who will not see a flop, period, until only 4 of
the original 9 players are left.

VP_NBI QUESTION
You lost me. If someone is dealt trash they should fold. In fact even
if they're not dealt trash depending on position and whether there are
raises the correct thing to do might be to fold. It could very well be
that someone doesn't catch playable cards until well into the

tournament.

MY RESPONSE:
vp_nbi, I understand starting hand requirements. The odds of having no
playable
hands for 45 minutes on line are pretty slim. On line is quicker than a
live
game so you see more hands. I don't think these people have any
intention of playing
a hand until the field is reduced.

ME:
Not only are they taking up a seat and not really playing, you have
to wait for them to fold each time. I guess there is nothing illegal
about what they do. It does change the dynamics of the game.

VP_NBI QUESTION
Huh?? How does folding take longer than staying in?? If they're not
folding they have to push chips in which takes longer than just
tossing 2 cards. Evaluating your dealt cards and deciding whether or
not to play on is very much a part of Hold Em.

MY RESPONSE:
If you haven't played on line, there is a clock and you have either 20
or 30 seconds
to respond or you are considered to have check/folded your hand. The
sitters often
let the clock run out and fold their hand for them instead of folding
right away. I
don't think they are considering whether to play or not. They are
probably doing something
else while the field gets down to their strike number.

ME:
Going to 2 small blinds and 1 big blind would cripple this play.
Maybe I will suggest that.

VP_NBI QUESTION
How does that affect anything? 7 of the players (I'm assuming a 10
player table) will be totally unaffected. The player on the 2nd small
blind isn't going to be any more enthusiastic about defending it than
if he was on the 1st small blind - if it's trash it gets folded.
Remember small blinds are "live" blinds, i.e. they act first, a
consideration when deciding whether or not to play on.

MY RESPONSE:

The sitter has no intention of defending his blinds. The additional
blind will help
bleed off his chips quicker if he has no intention of playing.
