XVP: Sin City?

At a wedding Sunday, in Aspen, Colorado, while discussing LV, I
mentioned my belief that LV is no more "sinful" than most major
cities. I don't think the others in this conversation (who were not
from LV) agreed. Any opinions?

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't sin any
more in LV than anywhere else. I guess one COULD sin
more there if inclined to!!

I, for one, try to sin as much as possible while in LV. That's half
the fun of being there! Dave

Let me get this straight...you were in the "snow" capital of the world
and discussing sin? Home of the late great Hunter S. Thompson? I just
read my LVA for July and now I can even use a coupon for a little
naughty time in Vegas. WHO HOO!!! Somebody stole my copy again...

Lets get some Royals...

One's view on this will no doubt depend on what behavior they include
under "sinful". If, for example, any of those folks at the Aspen
wedding considered gambling as sinful, well then it's no wonder they
disagreed.

well everything that happens here also happens in other cities...there
is however more of it here because of the libertine attitude...of
course it does come down to what you mean by "sinful" as that can have
many different meanings...everybody draws the line at a different
place...

People drink to excess and make asses of themselves in other cities.
People spend more than their budget allows everywhere in America (see our
negative savings rate as a country)
People have illicit, unresponsible and unprotected sex everywhere in America
on every day.
People gamble everywhere, whether in office NCAA pools, with bookies, or in
online poker rooms.

The only difference between Las Vegas and everywhere else is that we've
commodified such libertine offerings.

Seems to me Sin City is an atiquated term used by people who claimed,
in the old days, gambling was a sin. They were wrong. As I remember,
gambling isn't even one of the 10 Commandments. In fact, if we use the
Commandments as a gauge for sin, there is probably less sin in Vegas
than anywhere else. One of the big sins, adultery, is probably done
more in those sleepy towns with nothing to do. Who in the heck has time
to chase the other sex when in Vegas? We go to Vegas to
play...play...play and it's not with the other sex. If cheating couples
go to Vegas, that was set up back home. Lots of murder in Vegas; no
more than other bigger cities. The 10th Commandment might be violated a
lot. One shouldn't desire someone elses things. That means, you should
not wish that you had your neighbors royal instead of him getting it.
But that one is violated every where else also. When in Vegas, who has
time to desire the neighbors house or car? We only break the tenth
wishing for jackpots or large wins. Really, I don't consider that a
breaking the 10th as we are not wishing for our neighbors money. We are
wishing for the gambling joints money.

Sin City is a misnomer

Cheers....Jeep
