xvp - reviews of "Human Nature" "Legends" and "Soprano's Last Supper"

A friend was in town so I went with him to 3 shows this week.

The best show we saw was a new one in town, "Smokey Robinson Presents
HUMAN NATURE" -- 4 cute 30-something Australian guys sing Motown music and
dance their hearts out backed up by an excellent band. This show is at the
Imperial Palace, and apparently may now be a freebie ticket for Diamond
members (check since these things change all the time). Also you should be able
to get 2-1 tickets easily from the TwoForOne booth at Bill's Gambling Hall,
or elsewhere. I thought I saw some people at the bottom of the escalator
in the IP giving out tickets to (midweek). The show is worth it, even if
you have to pay full price.

The guys have excellent voices, and the bass voice was the best I've
heard. The set is a good one, with steps, and the guys do all sorts of
intricate choreography as they sing. Human Nature was the #1 singing group in
Australia with several #1 top albums. They've also toured as the opening act
for a number of singers, including Michael and Janet Jackson in the past.

They do hits from the Temptations, Marvelettes, Smokey Robinson, Supremes,
Marvin Gaye, and many others. Their energy level is topnotch. The show
lasted 2 hours and I would be happy to see it again tomorrow.

Some people brought Australian flags and the singers loved seeing that.
All in all a great show that hopefully will be in town for a long while.
See it.

LEGENDS has now moved to Harrah's. It may also be a Diamond member
freebie, so check. The show features different impersonators, who changed every
few months. This is great, because you can go back and back and the show
is different. They have terrific backup dancers and singers, who really add
to the show. Again, the band is excellent. The costumes were also
generally top-notch. The current rotating impersonators include Dolly Parton
(fun but a bit off key), James Brown (standout - fantastic), The Temptations
(excellent), and David Bowie (very good but I didn't like his wig). Also
Elvis always shows up and is excellent. This was the best Legends of the 3
different ones I've seen; but all were worth seeing.

SOPRANO'S LAST SUPPER. Is playing at the Tropicana. 1/2 price and other
discounts should also be available if you check around online or at
discount locations. Be sure to include the dinner, since you can by tickets for
the show only, or VIP with the dinner. The dinner was excellent for this
type of dinner theater - lemon chicken, salad, pasta with marina sauce,
cooked veggies, garlic bread, cheesecake, and thin breadsticks at the table.
Show starts at 7 p.m., and food isn't served for at least 1/2 an hour, so
don't come too hungry. You can also purchase unlimited bar for $25 extra,
which could be worthwhile, since a single glass of wine was $6. Coffee and
ice tea only come with the show, so bring your own soda or buy some.

The show is similar to Tony and Tina's Wedding, wherein costumed characters
sit at your table with you, and you and they are part of the action. You
don't need to have watched Soprano's to enjoy the show, but it wouldn't
hurt. A lot of the humor is bawdy (if not downright tasteless), so don't
bring the kids to this one. You are seated in "Badda Bing" stripper club
(fictionally speaking that is), but no strippers, for Tony Soprano's party (he
is now hiding in Vegas as Tony Baritone). Almost all the major characters
from the Soprano show are there to spill their guts (not literally though -
I thought they should have killed off several during the show) to you
verbally. Some laughs, lots of audience interaction, dancing, in about a 1 1/2
hour show. The food was really good too.

I would say it was a slightly better show than Tony & Tina's wedding,
since there was more audience interaction and better food (at least compared to
that show when it was at the Rio - I don't know how it is now). A singer
entertains for Tony & his friends, and my friend loved her. I thought she
was good but off-key at times.

If you can get a half-priced ticket, with food, the show is worthwhile.
It is entertaining, but there are a lot of better shows in Las Vegas to see
first, in my opinion.

I can confirm that DIAMOND rewards members get 2 free monthly for Legends or Human Nature.

MATSURI - Japanese Cirque-like show also plays at old IP Theatre where HUMAN NATURE currently resides. They have shows at 4 PM and on days when HUMAN Nature is dark.

Good deal!

On a side note: Rick Thomas (who I thought was an EXCELLENT showman/magician at the old Folies B. Theatre/Tropicana, is now showing at the SAHARA (unfortunately, in a smaller theatre/venue.
I'm not sure how good his act will be in there, but at least he's back in town.
