xvp - review of Voices at Las Vegas Hilton (plus Hilton Video Poker)

A new show seems to have quietly crept into town - "Voices" at the Hilton
starring Lani Misalucha (formerly seen in "Society of Seven") and headliner
Earl Turner (formerly seen at the Rio, in New Orleans, and elsewhere), and
a good six-piece band. I enjoyed the show a lot. The two singers have
excellent voices and sing a lot of different songs in many styles, including
some good duets. They are in the small "Shimmer" theater, so you can
purchase a ticket for general admission and sit close-up.

It is a different experience to see and hear singers in a small room, than
in a gigantic arena such as Caesar's Colleseum, and it is a good
experience. The show is high energy and very entertaining. Lani does a couple of
her well-known impersonations, sings an opera aria (the highlight of the
evening for me), and her excellent voice and personality shine. Earl Turner
is an ultra-high energy performer, dancing, jumping into the audience, doing
everything from jazz to pop.

Earl and Lani only opened recently, so the show could use just a touch of
fine tuning, in my opinion, since I did not like the Broadway show they
chose to highlight. It was a new show I wasn't familiar with. I would have
preferred more known material. Still their duets were very good, and the
audience enjoyed them.

On a Wed. night, the audience was small, and it was obvious they need to
get more publicity and sell more seats. The cost of tickets is apparently
about $60, but I'm fairly certain you can find some discounts if you check
around, such as at the 2-for-1 ticket booth, or call the box office and ask
about promotions (especially for Vegas locals). If you have one of the
Hilton's locals stickers on your card, you may also be able to get a discount.

The show lasted about 1 hour 15 min. Starting time 7 p.m. Afterwards the
Shimmer Theater has a topless show, Sin City Girls. At 10 p.m. it opens
for Sin City Heat lounge act.

Hilton now has some decent VP, so a good combo would be to see the Voices
show at 7 pm, play, and then go to the lounge act at 10 p.m. Best machines
seem to be in the Sports book, with $1 9/6 (clearly labeled), and $1 NSU
on the $1 progressive (they aren't progressive). The progressive is on bad
8/5 DDB - however I hit during my stay for a $6800 royal!!! I also played
Loose Deuces for an hour on my third day (I was there for a BJ tournament)
on the same progressive bank. I never play loose deuces, but it seemed
like a decent paytable. I then hit again for a $4000 royal! So that
progressive bank seemed good to me. The only problem with the progressive bank is
that it is right by the sports book, so can be noisy. Lots of people just
sit in the chairs, so if you can't find a seat, ask the sitters to get up.

There is also a lounge act at the bar.

The Hilton doesn't have the greatest cashback in the world, but you may
start getting decent mailers for extra cash, stays, etc. Vegas locals should
ask for the discount sticker at the club booth - 25% off all food
including the decent buffet and the very good Benihana's, etc. Locals receive
extra cash mailers and sometimes free ticket offers. However, I've found the
mailers for out-of-towners are even better. For not huge play, my husband
has been getting $25-75 per month, plus rooms, plus $50 food (when charged
to room), plus tickets and some slot tournament offers. If you get those
mailers, you can just take the cash offer to the cashier for cash. However if
you get a bigger mailer (over $200 I think), you will need to actually
book a room and have a host okay it. So if you have both a local address and
out of town, you might want to get the locals sticker for your card but use
the out of town address for your actual address.

Various buffet coupons seem to be around, such as 1/2 price coupons, so
keep an eye out for that. The buffet is small but quite good (good prime rib
for one thing and free wine).

Hi All,

The Las Vegas Hilton is offering me a lot of tournaments. I am wondering if anyone has played in them and can offer some info.

Please don't suggest I ask anyone in Marketing or a pit critter. The wrong answer will be forthcoming from these folks.

There is a Pai Gow tourmament coming up. Is this Pai Gow, the game with the tiles, or Pai Gow poker with cards? I know nothing about this game, sorry to look dumb. The invitation just says Pai Gow.

There is a VP tournament. What game will it be?

Thanks.
