XVP -- rental cars

Does the statement below mean that the rental car company can’t go to the person who rented to get their loss-of-use payment, even if AX won’t pay without fleet utilization? Seems like the contract that you must sign to walk out the door with a car is all in the favor of the rental company (surprise).

I would hardly consider AX to be “big insurance” (big money I’d agree) but maybe they’re big enough to bully (sometimes appropriately) the rental companies – but I use AX a lot too, and I’m encountering more and more companies that just don’t take AX, mostly because it is much more expensive (I’m told) for the merchant – but not wanting to be pushed around by the credit card company would be another reason for a merchant not to accept
them.

AX is very clear-NO fleet utilization report no payment. Maybe big insurance with deep pockets put car rental companies in their place?

Fifteen years ago I rented a vehicle for my brother-in-law who didn’t have a credit card at the time of rental. He proceeded to wreck the vehicle. MY credit card was charged just over $4,000. MasterCard settled the claim and paid all but $250 which was the loss of use. The rental car agency wouldn’t give them proof of loss of use so they refused to pay. The credit card company charged me for that part of the bill. And yes, the rental agency charged something like $65 a day loss of use for a compact car.
