XVP: Rental car claim

Harry Porter wrote ......

If your damage is being handled under coverage afforded you by your
credit card company, my experience was that their claims staff were
particularly efficient. However, the rental company can drag their
feet a bit in compiling a claim.

Your credit card benefits brochure will state clearly whether Loss of
Use is included in the rental car coverage. For Platinum or stronger
V/MC, it's almost a sure thing that it will be covered. For a
basic/Gold card, it often is, but some companies cut corners.

Harry, my credit card coverage is secondary coverage. I have to file a claim
with my insurance company first. My collisions deductible is $400. My insurance
company said they might waive the deductible. I want to find out the amount
that Alamo is seeking before I go through my insurance and then my credit card
company.

Looks like I will be contacting Alamo again on Monday. More details to follow.

Sorry 'bout that John ... pretty stupid on my part. 17 years sans car
ownership (PITA here in "Center City" Philly -- the Avis down the
street is our valet) has clearly taken this guy out of his "Buick
Town" roots  < that sign still there? same sign? ;>

Our rental was rear ended by a car doing 40+ mph four years ago while
at a standstill, waiting to exit the highway (or whatever you call the
Interstate free-for-all that slices a 2 mile bisector through the
heart of Philly). I think it took 2 mo or so before we received an
itemized statement for our claim from Avis. Of course, there was
about $10K of body damage that took them the better part of a month to
attend to.

The point is that you may have a good wait before you see the details
on the claim, including Loss of Use. I think they charged the full
rental rate on the car ... something like $40/day -- to the tune of
$800+. (I can dig back in records if the actual rate would be helpful.)

btw, if your insurer does waive the deductible on the Loss of Use
charge, let me know who it is. I think I'd like to add it to the list
of cos. I suggest others check out. If it's not covered, as I noted,
you can check your CC benefits brochure to see their policy. Here's
hoping that the whole thing gets tidily wrapped up!
