XVP Re: Tipping

How much would you tip if the amount was anonymous? Obviously, in most situations, it would be much less. For example, I have never seen anyone call over a change person to give them a tip when they hit $ deuces for a $1000, however, the same person will fork over $10 or more for 2$ deuces which pay $2000 simply because it is a handpay. Yet it is not the fault of the player that the IRS still has the tax threshold at $1200 as it has been for at least 30 years.

It often seems interesting to me that the cocktail waitress is content with a $1 tip while the change person is not content with a $5 tip.

Back when Plaza had $1 FPDW at the bar, I had a bartender refuse a $5 tip after I hit deuces for a $1000 handpay. He went on to tell me it was "an insult" and told me I could give it to the other bartender on duty. (I don't know if they shared tips.) I was still behind for the day after the "jackpot".

to share some of my happiness with another person. However, I
would not tip anyone, anonymously or when hand paid, if I did
not also receive prompt, pleasant and friendly service.

What's most enjoyable is tipping the people who don't "expect" it or who rarely get a tip.

As Babe said the Cashier is someone I will tip if I have had a nice win, or the brush or board person who maintains the lists?in a live poker game.? Or the slot attendant that comes over and watches my machine while I go to the bathroom or while I go to the machine to?cash out a big winning ticket.

At my local indian casino they have people pushing carts around with complimentary soft drinks, water, and coffee.? There are also self-serve stations where you can go get your own.? I always tip them without fail.? From my observation, less than 10% of the people served by these traveling carts get a tip.? It is very pleasing to see how much $1 tip for a free soda means to those people.?

People who expect a tip ----- must earn it.? It's not automatic.? My personal gripe is the cab drivers in Vegas who complain when they get a short ride.? Palms to Bellagio North Entrance?or the like.?? Or Orleans to Rio.? (Yes, I know there is an Orleans/Gold Coast shuttle ---- but sometimes I don't want to wait) ?I know the cabbies?have usually waited in line for a significant period and now they are "stuck" with a short fare.? If they are pleasant and don't complain, they get the biggest tip.? $7.20 fare--------"here's $20 keep it, I know it was a short ride"?

If they complain or you can tell by their attitude that they resent getting stuck with the short ride --- they get virtually nothing -?I will just?round up the fare to the next whole dollar?and I tell them "why".? They need to be pleasant to all rides since they don't know who will tip or appreciate the service the most.?

If I have a problem with a waitress in a restaurant, I too, do the leave a few coins on the table.? Then when inevitably the cashier asks "how was everything" I tell the truth which usually results in the manager coming over to hear what went wrong.? I then explain it.? Not to get a free meal or anything, but to let them know why I was disappointed and what should have been done differently.? Why walk away just upset without trying to make it better?

I don't tip on anything that doesn't have a W2-G attached to it, and generally, if I hit something and the machines locks up for less than $1200, management gets to hear about it.

That is the most 'bizarre' thing I have ever heard a bartender say. Do you think it was because he thought it was too small a tip? Either way, I would have taken it as in insult on me, and would have left the bar. (depending on how much I had to drink I might have said so to his face also!)

Absolutely. I was also tipping $1 for tiny cups of diet soda which I felt obligated to get while playing.

Remember I said the game was $1 FPDW. At the time, I was a dollar player and that was the best game I knew of at that denomination. I was insulted, but I would still play at that bar whenever I was lucky enough to find a seat.

I found out the VERY hard way that 50 cents per drink is not enough at
a bar at the Mirage. He quickly and very obviously ignored me. I'd
rather be thirsty than ever go through that again. I can't afford $1
per drink.

I can't afford that, either. I'm starting to panic because I'm
running out of gift shop comp points. Should I be tipping cashiers at
gift shops? Don't they work as hard as bartenders or taxi drivers?

I make the mistake of giving a waitress some change which included a nickel a long time ago and she just returned it next to the drink. I now tip a dollar minimum in cash. When I was at the HRH a few months ago I thought I'd tip in gold dollars but I didn't feel comfortable because I think some of the girls thought they were quarters.
