I'm uncomfortable there in daylight, and I'm a pretty big guy\.Ned C.
The Wild JokerOf course, you could dress like you don't have $3000 on you. Sorry, I
couldn't resist. I will desist now.The Scottish Insanity,
dipy911 (6' 260lbs)I even walk the block to the El Cortez at 1:00 AM.
I've made the hike to the El Cortez both day and night...and have even
ventured over to the Western (daytime) on foot without any problem. I take the bus
a good deal when I'm out there by myself, so I'm over at the Transit Center
quite a bit too. (Hanging out, waiting for the Deuce, having a smoke with the
locals.)
A lot of people think the walk from the Sahara to the Stratosphere is pretty
scary, but I do that all the time too...day and late, late night. (Sure, the
neighborhood to the West is a little shady, so stay out of there!)
If there were wholesale slaughter of tourists in any of these areas, I'm sure
we'd hear about it. BUT, if someone isn't comfortable with those parts of
Las Vegas, they probably won't feel any better about it just because somebody
here writes that it's safe. So, there's a pretty easy solution...if you don't
feel comfortable walking, take the bus...if you don't like the crowd on the
bus, take a cab. If you think the cabbies drive like maniacs, rent yourself a
car. (And feel free to dress up or dress down, depending on your mood....tip or
don't tip...and don't feel bad about playing short coin or non-full pay
machines if that's what you want to do....)
