XVP Re: "Boothling"

I am SO tired of hearing that damned word "sensitivity". Do you honestly think the "boothlings" care what you call them? And why can it not just be a cute little nickname some of us have for people that do that job? One person says something and everyone else has to fall in line..."oh yes you are right ....now that I think of it...just maybe (in some BIZARRO world) that could actually be considered demeaning".

I totally retract every time I ever used that term and in fact I think I will go back through the archives and edit every post I ever made where I used it....just in case someone just maybe, possibly, might inexplicably take offense to it.Amazing.

Working as a WAITER for many years I never cared whether I was called WAITER or SERVER. But today it seems it just isn't right to call someone a waiter today...our new politically correct term is server and you WILL use it or you will be shunned by society and who knows maybe even taken to Guantanamo Bay(sure they're enemy combatants).

It truly amazes me how far this whole thing has gone(political correctness).

Steve,

Thank you for posting that. I agree 100% with what you said.

There is nothing demeaning about the word boothling.

Isn't it time to move this to FreeVPFree? Or, should we open, again,
ad-nausea um

   - smoking
   - key thumpers
   - crooked cabbies
   - tipping?

And, BTW, what about floor-walkers?

Yes, I am the one who coined "boothling". I meant no offense to anyone, I had just come from the Hilton's "Star Treck" exhibit and that is what prompted the word. I was not trying to be "cute". I think this discussion is ridiculous. Get a grip, folks...

It could be just that and entirely innocuous.

But when I use the term, it's in a definitively derogatory sense. I
imply a slot desk rep who has no concern over the quality of their
service, nor has any interest in exercising any independent judgment
(except where it comes to selecting a response to a customer that
involves the smallest effort on their part ... typically some form of
"that can't be done", or an inaccurate guess of the truth posed as
fact without further checking).

Given an unmistakable tone in my voice, I would expect then to care
quite a bit. But sometimes you call a spade a spade (and sometimes
only a fool would).

But, that was never Annie Gauvin's spin on the word ... just one I
find very apt. On the whole, I entirely agree with Annie -- setting
aside the caution I spoke of previously, fretting over offense with
the term when none was intended is a bit much.

(btw, when I wrote of Annie's use/coining of the word as being "in
true form", I was admirably alluding to the fact that she has a
remarkable, down to earth way of using language to her advantage. She
was a treasure in Skip Hughes' forum; we hear from her far too seldom
here.)

I agree with you 100%, Harry!

I have never read a nasty or vitupertive post written by Annie.
She is well informed on many subjects, including VP, and it is
always a pleasure to read her posts. I too wish that there were
many more of them to enjoy on this forum.

As for the now controversial word "Boothling", I am absolutely
sure that Annie meant no disrespect to anyone. It would be
totally out of character for her to be mean-spirited to a service
person.

I also believe that we've beaten this subject nearly to death. It
would be merciful to let it take it's last breath.

It is amusing to me when people complain about a
subject being 'beaten to death' because their complaint
posts are actually part of their perceived problem!

It is also amusing to me when people post messages
on vpFREE suggesting that a thread to be moved to
FREEvpFREE because their posts on vpFREE are just
adding to their own perceived problem!

Personally, I see no problem with continued posts on
vpFREE about any subject. If there are messages
being posted about a subject, clearly *someone* is
interested in that subject. All threads eventually die
without the need for group members posting requests
to have them moved (to FREEvpFREE) or otherwise
discontinued.

Personally, if there is a thread that I feel has been
'beaten to death,' I just skip it and go on to the next
message in my IN box. I don't need to post a message
telling everyone that this thread should be moved or
stopped.

I don't read posts by jackessiebabe and I recommend the same. There's
lots of great people on this site to spend our limited energy on.

I heartily disagree with your recommendation and I heartily agree with
your second sentence.
