baby on the way) and it cost me not one penny.

If you have immediate problems, you can usually get immediate care.

i am simply amazed that we never hear any politicians saying we

broken...we spend the most per capita, but where is the excellence in

In 2000 the World Health Organization conducted a ranking of health care systems worldwide. The US came in 37 out of 191. You can see the criteria used in the press release at: (http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html). Fortunately, we came in just ahead of such economic powerhouses as Slovenia (38) and Cuba (39) but were beaten by Costa Rica (36), Morocco (29), Columbia (22) and Singapore (6). However, no one comes close to us in per capita spending on health care (WE'RE #1)!

All those other countries have National Health care ("socialized medicine") and yet provide better care at a lower cost than out "efficient" free market.

Thank you Bill.
I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who knew our true
health care situation. I couldn't remember the exact place we were and
was conservative in my post on this subject. I was aware how that our
medical was no where near as good as generally perceived in this
country. I must admit I surprised how low we did rate worldwide.
The sad thing is the vast majority of US citizens have no idea the
degree we are brainwashed.

You never hear the politicians talking about it, because the
government is the biggest problem with it. They started cost shifting
with medicare and medicaid, then the insurance companies started, so
that leaves everyone with out insurance to pay for what medicare
don't pay.

I had a simple blood test done, insurance paid $7.58, medicare would
probably pay about $5.00 for the same test. With no insurance, you
pay ~$50.00. I seen the paper work on mine and the test actually cost
$28.00.

Why do you think the hospitals charge $5.00 for an aspirin?

But back to video poker...

to cover the costs of all the people without insurance that stiff the
hospital...........
seriously there are very few hospital making money these days unless
they are in an affluent area where the majority have insurance.
I work at an inner-city hospital that routinely loses 1 million/month
(we are obviously a non-profit hospital!)
In any area with a high population of uninsured/illegals hospitals are
fighting just to survive.....many are closing.
Even in areas with insurance most are in HMO/PPO type plans these days
so the insurance companies have set prices (capitation) that they pay
for a day of care....so even if someone is in the ICU and had 2
surgeries that day and require tons of care the hospital gets a set
amount of pay. That is why so many trauma centers are closing.....most
trauma pt's cost the hospital money.
the US healthcare system is seriously screwed up!
anyway this is wayyyyyyyyyyy off topic so I'll step off my soapbox now!
