XVP - Racy HR billboard

The Nevada Gaming Commission was meeting, I think on March 18, to consider
the Hard Rock's racy billboard, "Get Ready to Buck All Night," with a gal
with her panties down around her ankles. I haven't seen their decision on
this - has anyone? Or, are they still thinking about it?

Jean, You had stated in an earlier email which I deleted that you and Brad
had a Looong Hectic weekend at Caesars a couple of weeks ago when you were
there for the tournement. We were there but for the shopping spree and
passed on the tournement this time. You never mentioned how you did in it.
Did you make it out of the guaranteed money or win it all  17,000 points
would be a lot of work too. Tom & Jo

They are studying the billboard very closely

Hmmmm...let's see. After long deliberation, the GC gave the
cheating swine at Venetian a slap on their slimy wrists. What in
the world would be appropriate in this case? How about a gentle
spanking on her...? I'll even volunteer for the nasty job.

I guess I should have made a "trip report" on this - but we are just now "recovering."

For those who didn't know about this: You paid $5000 entry fee for the slot tournament of 1/2 million prize pool for 100-120 entrants. I think there ended up being the 120. If you put on 17,000 points during that time, you got your $5000 back. I don't know what we (actually I brought up the brilliant idea) were thinking but we decided we could do this in the 4 days ($44 equal 1 point), although more hours per day than we usually like to play. But a shot at $250,000 first prize sounded like fun.

We started out both playing $5 single-line NSUD - 8 hours the first day - about 5-6 the second day. The math said the long-term average loss would be about $561. At that point we were about $10,000 down - and saw we never would hold up for the # of hours it would take at that rate to get 17,000 points. We were doing terrible in the tournament and knew we would only get the $1000 minimum that all entrants would get. Should we stop? Heavens, no, we are stubborn.

So we switched to side-by-side multi-line machines - $2 Five-Play and $2 Ten Play. After a few hours we were down another $9000 - a total of $19,000 and within a couple of minutes of having to go get a marker. We had about 3 hours more to finish getting our 17,000 points.

Then Lady Luck smiled - I got dealt quads 3 times on the Ten Play and Brad got them dealt two times on Five Play. Then he got an $8,000 royal and I got two of them. When we hit the 17,000-point mark, we were exhausted, but happy. We collected (in cash) our $5000 returned entry fee (which we had put on our SW credit card). With our $1000 tournament win, and $1700 in cashback, we ended up with a $7500 net profit plus a set of silver candlesticks and various goodies delivered to the room - and felt almost as thrilled as if we had won first place in the tournament.

We weren't even close to the bottom of our financial gambling bankroll at any time, but we were at the very bottom of our pool of physical strength at the end, and were pretty close to the bottom of our psychological bankroll a couple of times during the middle.

Relief is a strong emotion!!!!!

Jean, Thanks for the report as this was one we also mulled over even
"Partnering" with another player, but every way we calculated we saw how
difficult or near impossible the 17,000 points would be and also the risk
for which we would not probably had your tolerance (bankroll or not). Glad
to hear it worked out. At $700,000 plus through the risk of a 1%-2% loss was
scary enough that added to the possibility one might run out of time or
energy left us reticent
to venture in the final end. Thanks again Tom &

By the way, when we switched to multi-line we had to drop down to 9/6 JoB from single-line NSUD's, which reduced our equity, which we hated to do. But all's well that ends well!!!!

Jean, also how scary it had to be to be down so far and then to have 3
ROYALS and 15 Four of a Kinds only bring you back to even!!! Wow and you
said you aren't in the Dancer League, we think you Really are!! Question is
would you try it AGAIN??

If you think that's a bit racey, how about this:

I'm convinced that someone must have made up a fake commercial here; any members of the group from up in Canada who could possibly verify whether this is really a TV commercial that is being aired up there?

Thanks.

Having studied the billboard carefully <g>, I have a little trouble figuring out what all the fuss is about. All you see is panties, ankles, feet, stilettos, and a hand. Nary a naked naughty body part is in view. OK, so "Buck All Night" is a raunchy pun. Big deal. In a town where I can't drive from A to B without winding up behind a cab with those seven ...uh... "behinds" of the Crazy Girls occupying my full field of vision, the Hard Rock billboard is "naught" naughty. Methinks the whole thing is trumpeted up to get free publicity for the Hard Rock.

Remember we were playing Five Play and Ten Play. Theoretically one SHOULD get more royals faster playing 15 lines than on two single lines. We had played quite a bit of $1 Ten Play in the past and had NEVER got one royal - so I guess you would say we were "due."

Would we try it again? I don't know. I am really trying to protect Brad's health more since his heart attack - and I am severely allergic to smoke. So common sense says we should limit our daily play in a casino. We definitely don't play every day - Brad maybe 3-4 days, some of them short term. I play a couple of days a week. We mainly play for bounce-back, the minimum required for a good %, or a good promo. This tournament had an over $3000 equity, even on JoB. About $3600 if we could have stayed with NSUD. Those kinds of promos don't come along every day, with a shot at such a top prize.

Really the only reason we play at such high levels is due to the time factor and our lack of strength for long hours. Brad still plays quarter FPDW when he is just "fiddling around." We are still low-rollers, just old ones that have to cram more coin-in during a short period of time before we fall off our casino seats!!!!

Good taste is such a personal matter. I thought the Canadian beaver "commercial" was funny because it was implied. The HR billboard offended me because it assumed we were dumb and couldn't get implication. Plus my granddaughter would have thought it "not appropriate" for children. She did see several Palms billboards with back views of topless girls and pronounced them "inappropriate." You can tell her mother is trying to raise this 9-year-old going on 19 to not be a slut, in spite of Brittany Spears.

I like implied sexual connotations - this probably is a gender thing. John, I think you are a typical man. Throw sex in your face - you aren't offended!!!!

Good points, Jean.

Just to clarify, I can see where some might be offended by the Hard Rock billboard; it's just that I think there are plenty of MORE offensive billboards and ads all over town. Some feature the wonders of silicon implants (the KOMP tank-top, Jaguars, etc), and then there is the variety of "personal strippers sent to your room!" billboards, the various topless billboards for topless strip shows...the whole thing's a driving hazard if nothing else! Plus, the porn-peddlers on the strip, and racks of "free samples" of "personal dancers" all over the place. Compared to all these, the Hard Rock's innuendo didn't even register; but that's just me. We're agreed in principle: the whole thing's out of control. Kids shouldn't have this in their faces; nor should parents have to feel the need to put blinders on their kids just to drive to the supermarket!

John

PS: I didn't think it could get worse...but it can. In Pahrump, virtually every billboard in town features the employees of the town's bordellos, in full uniform. One of these is in front of the school. Sheesh!
