XVP - Question about rental cars

I hate to post a non-vp message but it would be helpful if someone
could give me some info. we haven't been to vegas for a year (yikes).
we were trying to hold fast and not go back out until we move there
next fall but we couldn't stand it. we will be there in 2 weeks. i
take it the new rental car facility is open? if so, can someone give
me and advice. we are booked with Dollar (as usual) and i'm afraid we
are going to miss their fast-in/fast-out service. thanks in advance.

Nothing to worry about. You will be bused to the rental facility
from the curb
outside where you used to get the bus.

At the facility, just go to the area where the Dollar rental counter
is and then you
will see the signs to where their cars are on a half-level down. If
you are
FastLane, you can proceed directly to this level and there is a
booth to get
your contract and car.

I used Dollar on 2 recent trips and thought it was much faster than
the old way. When you and exit the south doors you can see the
Fastlane booth straight ahead.

I'm going to cast what appeard to be the lone dissenting voice
regarding the consolidated facility.

*The drive to the new facility is a few miles longer than the
location of Dollar's old lot which was as close to the terminal as
any company's. This adds a MINIMUM of 5 minutes, each way to your
trip.

*Buses now are generally filled to capacity both ways which adds a
couple minutes each way.

*The normal exit of the facility will dump you a few miles south of
civilization on LV Blvd. Add in the ongoing construction in this
area and it's a real PIA navigating north on the Strip.

*Once you're dropped at the facility the walk to the cars can be
several hundred feet. This is no small detail for those carrying
notable baggage or those that are handicapped. No more getting off
the shuttle and taking twenty steps to your car. True "express"
service is no longer offered.

*When you're returned to the airport, you're dumped at the extreme
far end of the terminal. If you're flying Southwest, it's a hike to
the ticket counter. Again, no small detail for those with a load of
baggage or those that are handicapped.

*We'll now be paying a $3 a day fee for this "service" from here to
eternity.

I am not impressed with the new car rental facility especially the busing aspect which does take a fair amount of time. In my opinion, some kind of subway would have been much better.

But I feel that they built something that will last the ten years or so until the new airport is built so they put as little effort and expense as possible and reasonable.

Just to put my 2 cents worth in, I rent from Dollar all of the time, however it is only
worthwhile if you join up as an Express member. It fasttracks you immediately to a car
once the bus drops you off. I've seen the horrendous lines at the counter and always
thanked my lucky stars that I had signed up to be Express. Also my previous experiences
when waiting for the dedicated Dollar bus to turn up after exiting the air terminal, was that
it could take up to fifteen minutes or more for one to show. Now it seems that the all-
purpose bus shows up every three or four minutes, so if the drive is a little longer to the
car facility, it is more than made up for the shorter bus wait time. Once you get your car
you exit on Las Vegas Blvd and depending what time of day you are arriving it seems no
longer or shorter than having to navigate from the old terminal onto Paradise and Korval. I
have been stranded in memorable traffic jams just as much there than on LV Blvd. All in all
I find the new facility to be straightforward and efficient depending on what time of day
and of course on what day also you arrive.

Royals to all,

MO
