XVP: Personal TVs/DVD Players in Restaurants - an Etiquette Question

Do you think it's appropriate to bring a DVD player or a TV to entertain a young child at a nice restaurant (e.g., a steak house, which is the nicest restaurant at most casino resorts) during a holiday dinner?

If you think it's appropriate, would you still think it was appropriate if it is played loud enough for other diners to hear?

If you were at the next table and having your holiday dinner disrupted, would you speak to the parents directly or would you call over a manager? What would you say, and what outcome would you expect? Also, do you feel that restaurant management should proactively take action before customers complain (i.e. when the noise from the player began) -- or are they better off pretending that there's no problem until complaints begin?

I don't even think that it's appropriate to bring THE YOUNG CHILD to
a nice restaurant, most particularly if the nice restaurant is
located in a casino!

Children?...Yes! Casinos?....Yes! Children IN casinos? NO, No,
NO!!

If you were at the next table and having your holiday

dinner disrupted, would you speak to the parents directly or would
you call over a manager?

If my incantation to Samantha, or any other resident witch, was not
successful in removing the inconsiderate, impolite and noisy people
at that table, I would quickly summon the restaurant manager and
demand that those rude folks be moved somewhere (the alley behind
the casino, perhaps) where they would not be a bother to civilized
diners.

What would you say, and what outcome would you

expect?

I would tell the manager that the boobs at the next table were
interefering with the enjoyment of my meal, and that I was
requesting that they be moved immediately.

I would than expect that the bothersome individuals would be moved,
post haste, with or without their acquiescence.

If they were not moved, I would leave after telling the manager why
we would not be back. I would follow this with an email of
complaint to the casino food and beverage manager.

Also, do you feel that restaurant management should

proactively take action before customers complain............

Yes. It is the job of a restaurant manager to eliminate potential
nuisances for the MAJORITY of patrons, BEFORE the nuisance turns
into a meal ruining abomination.

Just my opinion, of course.

and also dined in restaurants with grandchildren. None of these
kids were ever permitted to disturb another diner, even in McD's!)
