While the Palms regular buffet is undergoing much-needed renovation, there
is now a small (tiny really) buffet on the 2nd floor of Gardunos. Dinner is
$8.99, lunch less. Also you can get a $1 discount by showing a Palms player's
card. In addition, if you regularly get buffet discounts, you'll get them
here as well. So with my "Hall of Famers" 75% discount I paid about $2.50 in
comp dollars for the buffet. You can't get much cheaper than that.
Dinner buffet included peel and eat shrimp (small-sized), prime rib, soup of
the day, salad, tuna salad, halibut, turkey (carved), roast pork (pre-carved
with gravy), chicken pot pie, shirmp noodle dish (sort of shrimp primavera?),
small selection of deserts such as carrot cake and pies, and whole fruit
(bananas, apples, oranges), plus a few other things like rolls, mashed potatoes,
baked yams, cooked vegetables, rice.
No Chinese, no Lebenese.
Best thing was the price. With discount this is pretty good if you like
prime rib, turkey, or one of the other main courses.
Worst thing - canned music ala Palms - which consists of overly repetitive
dance music, too loud, and not good (in my opinion).
Service was good.
Upstairs area is pretty small, but also includes a balcony overlooking the
pool, good in nice weather.
We found the quality of food to be higher than at previous Palms buffet.
For example, mashed potatoes were real potatoes mashed with butter or
margerine, halibut was well-cooked and tasty, chicken pot pie was excellent.
Unfortunately there just isn't a lot of selection. But if you like the food they do
have, at the price you can't go wrong.
Place is small, so it could get crowded during peak hours. It only opened a
couple of days ago and was quite busy tonight from 5-5:30.
