(XVP) Overheard Live Poker Comment

This past weekend I was pounding away on a VP machine (and losing
steadily) when I overheard this conversation...

"What you been playing???"

"Well, I was playing blackjack, but I was losing too bad on that, so
I went to play poker in the poker room. I was playing that 7 card
stud game, and I was doing OK for a while, but I lost one big hand
when I got mixed up between a flush and a full house. I forgot which
one was better, and I didn't want to ask during the hand."

Maybe it's time I should learn how to play live poker, if this is any
indication of the current level of competition

While this example is extreme, this is fairly representative regarding the state of poker. Traditional table and machine players are trying to transition to the game without the proper homework. I think the reason the game is loosening up so dramatically is that most casino players like action. This "action" group would even include advantage players of both BJ and VP. I think Chris Ferguson phrased it best when he said poker (specifically no limit) is a game with hours of boredom and moments of sheer terror. The "action" players want to be involved and don't like the boredom part. As a result, they play a lot of hands and revel in the huge pots while forgetting the steady leak of money that led to that one good pot.

Now that I have written this down, I realize something. I've just descibed a slot players mentality. They also get very excited about the jackpots while forgetting that they are still losing money after accounting for the jackpot they just hit.

And speaking of Live Poker, does YAHOO have a Poker board that is the
equivalent of this one??

I did a search and came up with over a thousand groups, most of them
wanting to play strip poker; is there a Yahoo equivalent, where we can
keep and clothes on (and help to not lose our shirts)?

And BTW, what is it with everyone receiving multiple copies of posts of
this group (sometimes together, sometimes a day or more apart)???

Not that I'm aware of.

The principal Poker forum is the usenet group
<rec.gambling.poker>
which can be accessed via usenet or on Google
Groups <http://tinyurl.com/4aag4>.

Another popular group is "2+2"

This is a NEW Yahoo FUBAR, that is happening on many Yahoo
groups. Some members are having their account information
duplicated (or triplicated) on the membership list, for no apparent
reason, and they are getting multiple copies of all posts. Deleting
one of the entries deletes them all and the member gets
unsubscribed. Likewise, trying to set one of the entries to "no email"
changes them all to "no email" etc..

On the only other instance I'm aware of on vpFREE, the member
unsubscribed, set up an additional Yahoo ID (which can be done
through the "Edit my membership" link on vpFREE), resubscribed,
and after a short delay his three membership entries reverted to
only one entry. I don't know if this was a solution or a coincidence.

If anyone is having this problem, report the problem to Yahoo, and
when you get a canned response, reply to the response with a
description of the problem again. Yahoo will undoubtedly fix this
glitch when they get enough complaints.

Send me a private email if you want sympathy or want me to get
involved.

advantagegamblers.com has a good poker forum. It isn't a big as some of
the others mentioned, but it does have quite a few ful time pros, who
can be very helpful.
