XVP: Opinions, plz! : Million Dollar Slot Tournament

I received a free Entry in the Reno Oct 24/25 "Stay, Play & Win" Million Dollar Slot
Tournament.
I do NOT plan on making a special trip to Reno to participate ($170 R/T fare, but
room & food is comped). Deadline to register is Oct 8. Non-transferrable!

My main reason is that this would be at least 6 weeks before my next scheduled visit.
Bankroll is set for early December visit. I buy into the philosophy to make trips on MY
schedule, not theirs. But this one is mor ethan the usual teaser.

I tried to do some math about the "EV" of the tournament. There are, I BELIEVE, 500
entrants from each of 4 Reno casinos. Top three scores from the combined three ten-
minute (mindless button pushing)sessions go to final round with 9 players from the
other casinos. Prizes are $1Million, $25K, 18,15,12,10K, $7500, $5, 4,3 and $2K
that's only 11 prizes, but you get the drift.

Anyhow, odds seem low: 0.6% of entrants advance for 1/12 of a combined prize pool
of $1,100,000 - comes out to $550 per person. Certainly chicken feed for my
valuable time to take the trip.

I'm sure I would skip all the socials and free food handouts (my food is comped
anyways), so I could play VP most of my waking hours per usual.

I guess I'm looking for comments anywhere between: "You're crazy -this is an
opportunity of a lifetime!" -to- "Sound rationale - stick to your plan!".

How would YOU decide if you had this chance?

It seems to me that you REALLY WANT to make this

extra trip. If you (and your bankroll) can afford it, and you can
carve out the time, why not? I certainly wouldn't go JUST for the
Slot Tournament, but since you are going to be playimg mostly vp,
you're fully comped and only have to pop for airfare, live
dangerously and follow your dream! If you're trying to determine
the ev of this promotion, I hope that some more erudite individual
answers your post as well. Whatever you decide, the best of luck to
you.

I might have missed this, and if I did I apologize...but which 4
casinos are putting on this tourney?

I think it is Eldorado, Silver Legacy, Circus Circus, and Harrahs Reno. I am going courtesy of Eldorado. Where else can you get a 1 in 2000 shot at a million bucks!

Reno's four premier downtown hotel-casino properties, Circus Circus Reno, Eldorado
Hotel Casino, Harrah's Reno, and Silver Legacy Resort Casino, will qualify a total of
2,000 people for semifinal and final events to be held at the end of October. At the
two-day event on October 24-25, 2004, someone will become a millionaire, just as
Douglas Kirby did last year.

The tournament is being held at the City Center Pavilion.
It is "hosted" by Bob Eubanks(!)

I just got a postcard from Silver Legacy: they have a last minute qualifying
tournament the night before.

We'll see...
