Stayed at NYNY this year & had tickets to party but chose to leave about 6:30
for Terribles to check out the place & get ready for their double royals
promotion which starts at 9 PM on NYE. Terribles was touting it on their huge
marquee. Had some questions as to whether it would be good on $ DB
progressive & wanted to see rules. Saw a friend who told me that it was not
good on progressive & limited to nickels on the next best game - JB. After
JB, the next best game is 8-5 Bonus Poker at 50-cent & higher. Finally got a
slot person to show me the rules as it wasn't available at slot club & was
Terribly disappointed to find that the promotion was limited to nickel or
lower on JB & to quarter or lower on all other games. Well quarter BP is 7-5.
With a double royal it's a highly volatile break even game (100.3%) so I
decided play $2 JB till I accumulated 12K pts which were good enough to use
for 10X cashback, gas, phone cards & companion pts (my wife). Finished just
before 11 & went to wait in line -- only one there but it still took 10
minutes to process all the coupons.
Terribles has the absolute, hands-down most Terrible slot redemption system
which is one of the reasons why this was my only playing trip to Terribles
this year. One coupon must be printed out for each item. If you want five
six-packs, you get five coupons for one six-pack each not one coupon for five
six-packs! Cashback coupons are limited to $20 each so a $100 cashback is
five coupons each for $20. Employee must sign & date each coupon & then turn
it over to customer to sign each coupon. It's been like this since day one.
As long as you value your time at next to nothing, it's not much of an
inconvenience.
In any case, I got what I wanted with the minimum of wasted time per the
system & proceeded to return to NYNY to catch the tail-end of the NYE party.
This is where I should have known better. Encountered roadblocks on all
attempts to return via Tropicana E, Las Vegas Blvd S, Tropicana W, even went
all the way to Industrial from Sahara but could only get as far as New
Frontier front parking lot. In my odyssey to find a way back, went down Las
Vegas Blvd S of Mandalay Bay where I saw people pulling off just before
midnight so decided to do the same across from the Belz mall where I found a
nice isolated patch all to myself. Turned on a local radio station, waited
till midnight when the fireworks started to go up & watched the whole show.
Not as impressive as Disney World on NYE but still a nice show. Continued
odyssey to find a way back to NYNY & ended parked in Tropicana casino parking
lot where I napped in sports book (& got rousted) till 3 AM when roadblocks
were finally cleared from Tropicana Ave & I could finally turn into main
entrance (Las Vegas Blvd) only to find that NYNY had not yet cleared their
own barriers @#**#@ so proceeded to side entrance off Tropicana Ave which was
open & got in & parked by 3:30 AM.
Observations of crowd & traffic control during NYE: Disney World does a much
better job probably due to fewer drunks on the street & in the cars & because
it controls most of the property you travel on.
Fireworks: Again Disney World does a much better job due to many factors:
--better sight lines (much of it happens over water)
--better fireworks (LV probably uses shorter-duration fireworks due to
safety issues that DW doesn't have to worry about over water)
--much more experience (DW does it every night, LV just a couple of times
a year so DW pacing is impeccable)
Lesson learned for next NYE in LV: Walk
