XVP: NV makes another list

I know there's enough bad news about NV but I have to share this with the
group. Even though NV has been going through an awful downturn, my wife & I
still consider it a place to retire to -- northern NV around Carson City.
What surprised me is that Money Rates ranked it as the worst state to retire
to in spite of its low tax rate. What kicked it down to last are the high
crime & unemployment rates. Even so, Money Rates says every area has
something going for it. Naturally if you're a gambler, this is the place. Also
sites like Zillow give plenty of local statistics about crime rates,
schools, etc.

I plan on retiring at Sun City Anthem in a few years. I think it'll be the perfect place for me.

Of course Las Vegas is a great place to live. Great weather, 10 months of the year. Plan vacations or travel in July and August when the heat is at it's height. We are just starting to see a preview of summer, since it hit the 90's yesterday. No state income tax, cheap food and entertainment, makes this a great retirement location. Sun city Anthem is also great. There are quite a few Sun Cities... thruout the Las Vegas/Henderson area to choose from as you know. But you have to be 55 to live there and make use of the facilities.

I'm turning 50 this August. Are there any communities that allow 50 plus? Also what are your favorite retirement communities? The most important aspect for me is golf.

Hey James.

This is DTH in Gold Canyon AZ, just 45 minutes Southeast of the Sky Harbor airport in Phoenix AZ, in the foothills of the Superstition Mountains. I don't know if you were considering AZ, but we love it here, in a Tesoro town home on the 3rd fairway of the Gold Canyon Resort, Sidewinder golf course. Here is a link to the resort: http://www.gcgr.com/ ....DTH

Most scenic golf course I have ever played on. Great experience. However as the starter told me , "don't go into the desert looking for your golf ball without a club". I didn't have to ask why. JR
