XVP: Notes on Free WiFi in Vegas

(1) The quality of the connection at the Fitzgerald's Krispy Kreme
outlet has deteriorated noticeably. You now also can choose to
connect to a PAY service affiliated with the Fitz. I suspect that
the second fact helps to explain the first.

(2) There's a pretty good free hotspot in front of the player's club
at Main Street Station. No one asked me to show a player's card or
room key.

(3) If you have a car and seek either a fast connection or time away
from the casinos, try the Elysium Internet Cafe at 7875 W. Sahara in
a strip mall just west of Buffalo/Sahara intersection.
[ElysiumInternetCafe.com] Your first WiFi hour is free regardless of
whether you buy a cup of their very good coffee. Additional WiFi
hours @$1.99. They also have about 20 desktop PCs for rent by the
hour. Printing from those desktops costs 20 cents/page.

(4) Some Starbucks stores are transitioning away from their
affiliation with T-Mobile's pay HotSpot service to their own free
WiFi. I used this at a Starbucks near Boulder Station. The
connection was OK, but not as quick as the T-Mobile version I've used
at other Starbucks.

(5) Slightly Off the WiFi Topic: The best Internet deal I found on
this trip was the Casino Royale's business center. Very small and
only two desktops, but a VERY fast connection and free printing. You
must have a current room key to enter. Over a 3-day weekend, I never
had to wait and never saw anyone waiting behind me.

The GMan

I guess everyone knows that McCarren Airport has
free wi-fi everywhere.

Another place here and most cities is the public
libraries. You may have to ask for password but
usually not a problem.

On the strip there is a free WiFi at the Coffee Bean And Tea Leaf
store inside the Miracle Mile shops. You do not have to purchase to
use it and connects all the way to the middle area. It is a nice area
to grab a coffee or other drink and sit at their tables and use the
internet. Also if you are staying at the Encore and need to do your
boarding passes there is no charge at the business centre.

The free signal at Main Street Station's "Internet Cafe" (a strange, empty area with tall tables and short chairs, where no food or beverages are served) also extends into the 777 Microbrewery, at least to the tables near the door.

Silverton's Starbucks offers free internet. My technique is to play NSU deuces and get a comped Bailey's & coffee (served in a Starbucks paper cup), then move into the coffeeshop and connect. Does this make me a cheapskate?

You may be according to the definition below: cheapskate
"miserly person," 1896, from cheap (q.v.), second element perhaps from Amer.Eng. slang skate "worn-out horse" (1894), of uncertain origin. I have tried the free comped lunch thing before and the "free" lunch ends up costing me $100 bucks of money thru a machine like liver thru a goose. This is when I start feeling like a "worn out VP horse".

Best of luck and keep on surfing those free internet waves! : )

No! Thrift is to be a trait sought after. Your post was very informative,
and welcomed.

Cheapskate is when our personal thrift inconveniences another person, the
other person being not wise enough (Government Taxes Excluded? -- no they're
a fool to, but they carry guns) to appreciate it's your decision how you
spend your money, and that you're kind enough to be doing them a favor.
