Silver Legacy? Atlantis? Or?
Many thanks!
Silver Legacy? Atlantis? Or?
Many thanks!
I guess we really need your definition of the word "nicest". Good clean
standard rooms? Nice suites? Good Gambling? Nice restaurants?
Expensive? Spa? etc.?
Atlantis has a nice casino (good VP too)and nice rooms, but they have
some old motel type rooms out back that are not so great. I like the
Peppermill. Very good VP, clean larger rooms, and good comps.
Did you know that there is a vpFREE Reno? Check it out, and post your
question over there.

Hamstockman raised some really good points. As a Diamond, I like
staying at Harrah's, despite the poor VP choices and the lackluster
restaurant options. The rooms I've stayed in have been lovely, and
I once was given a mini-suite that was fabulous. It's an easy walk
across the street (out the exit in the casino past the asian
restaurant with the sushi bar) for great breakfast specials.
(Notes: The service in the coffee shop is terrible, and the food
isn't always hot when it fianlly gets to the table. The food in the
Italian restaurant is good, and I'm planning on re-visiting it.)
I love my host at the Peppermill, and overall, I think they have the
best VP and restaurants. (If you like fish, seafood or sushi, you
must try Oceano, even if you're not staying there.) I'm not so wild
about the rooms and probably won't stay there until they build the
new building. That being said, this could be a really good choice
for you -- and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there if I didn't like
Harrah's rooms so much.
I also liked the VP at the Atlantis, but I haven't stayed or eaten
there. Also, I only recently joined their slot club, and I haven't
really gotten much mail from them yet.
The Silver Legacy is my bottom choice. First of all, they treated
me horribly (see my post #56537). Despite my dropping in and
playing $20k (in a single session), the only mail I've gotten from
them has been invitations for me to PAY to come back. (The last
offer was for me to pay $249 for a weekend, which included the room
and participation in a slot tournament. It took less than a minute
for that offer to hit the trash bucket.) Finally, when I was there,
it was mid-week; not only were several of the restaurants closed,
the food in the coffee shop was in-edible.
I hope this helps.

When I read Missdeuces post, my first thought was, "really?" Then, the lightbuld went off (or the coffee kicked in <g>), and I realized that everyone's reviews are subject to their own taste and preferences. What works for me, doesn't work for Missdeuces; what works for Missdeuces may not work for "Person X."
What I do in this situation, is I look for someone who has taste/preferences that are similar to mine for an area that I know, and then, I lend extra credence to their recommendations. For example, Heidi Knapp Rinella (food reviewer at the Las Vegas Review Journal) seems to have the exact taste in restaurants as I do. Whenever I read her reviews of restaurants that I've been to, I find that her experience parallels mine and that our criticisms match. Because of this, when she reviews a restaurant that I haven't been to, if she raves about it, I put it at the top of my "must try" list. If she hates it, I avoid it.
So, my advice to cdandre12000(the original poster) is to read old posts containing trip reports from places you've been to -- and see whose taste is similar to yours. Then, see what those folks have to say about the hotels in Reno. It's a little more work, but you may just be happier with the results.
