Some news hit the newspaper today which might be of interest.
Harrah's is planning changes at Caesars. The outdoor show area/bar/open
area that only was built about 2 years ago at the corner of Flamingo and Las
Vegas Blvd., will be torn down and replaced with more casino floor! It seemed
to take forever for this area to be built -- and it was mostly an open area
-- so I personally expect it will be awhile before we see this torn down and
rebuilt. Also, they want to put another new hotel room tower on the southwest
corner of the property. (that's behind the Augustus tower, where there is
currently a "temporary" convention building that has existed for a number of
years).
The owner of the former Wet n Wild development has presented plans to the
Planning Commission to build a 142-story obelisk hotel. This would be taller
than the Stratosphere (1149 ft) and would be 1888 and called the Milan Tower.
However, the FAA and Nellis Air Force Base are objecting that this would be
too tall and a hazard to aviation.
Boyd Gaming is rumored as a takeover target.
Golden Nugget has discounts for Simply Ballroom show for locals.
Project City Center (MGM/Mirage) - across from Aladdin - is under
construction. 76-acre site will have 2702 condos and condo-hotel units. This in
addition to various casino hotels.
A 50-story sky scarper is planned for downtown Las Vegas. Will have luxury
condos, a 3-story retail jewelry center, a jewelry and gem museum, office
space, and other shops. Would be located on 61-acre site at Grand Central
Parkway and Bonneville Ave.
